Behavioral and psychological determinants of pedestrian collisions on arterial roads with evidence from random parameter models.

Arterial roads, while comprising a small percentage of total roadway mileage in the U.S., contribute disproportionately to pedestrian fatalities. Focusing on the behavioral and psychological dimensions of crash risk, this study analyzes 1722 pedestrian crashes on principal arterials and 1614 on minor arterials in Louisiana from 2017 to 2021. A Random Parameter Multinomial Logit Model with Heterogeneity in Means and Variance captures the hidden variation in how individual behaviors and situational contexts affect injury outcomes. Results indicate that perceptual challenges (dark conditions with

Impact of physical activities, sedentarism, and sleep on depression and psychological distress-prospective findings of the Canadian longitudinal study on aging.

BACKGROUND: The interrelation of physical activity, sedentarism, and sleep concerning the onset and persistence of depression is underexplored. This study examines the joint effect of time spent in these activities on clinically relevant depressive symptoms (CRDS). It also examines the influence of history of depressive disorder and whether results extend to serious psychological distress (SPD). METHODS: Longitudinal data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, including 25,665 middle-aged and older (45-85 years) people, were used. Self-reported questionnaires were used for time spent

Nitrous oxide promotes exploratory activity and stimulates neurogenesis in a male rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Neurogenesis in the adult brain is a precisely regulated process that remains highly sensitive to intrinsic and extrinsic influences. Among the external factors are psychological conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which arises after exposure to trauma such as war, accidents, violence, or natural disasters. PTSD, as well as other disorders like stress and depression, has been linked to diminished hippocampal neurogenesis. In this study, we utilized the single prolonged stress (SPS) model to induce PTSD-like behavior in male rats, demonstrating its suppressive effects on

Introduction to the "Japanese and Western approaches to psychotrauma" symposium.

Understandings of psychotrauma have changed throughout medical history, shaped by cultural and social factors. Reviewing transcultural perspectives of psychotrauma helps understand its complexities and contextual impacts. This paper summarizes the Japan-Netherlands symposium on psychotrauma held on March 1, 2024. Despite experiencing psychological trauma from World War II and numerous natural disasters, Japan did not actively research post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for nearly 50 years after the war. The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Tokyo subway Sarin gas attack (1995) populari

Relevance of yoga practices concerning the psychological well-being in Finnish adults: A cross-sectional study.

Mental health disorders are rising in Finland, with associated costs among the highest in OECD countries. These challenges correlate with lower education, income levels, and increased social exclusion. Yoga, known for promoting physical and mental well-being, is increasingly recognized for reducing psychological distress. This study compares mental health outcomes-depression, anxiety, and stress-among Ashtanga Yoga practitioners (AYP), practitioners of other yoga styles (OYS), and non-practitioners (NPY). A cross-sectional survey conducted in 2021 involved 667 Finnish adults: AYP (n = 205), OY

Reflecting the voices of prison officers with respect to their support, supervision, and wellbeing training needs: a reflexive thematic analysis.

Prisons represent a significant public health concern. The challenging living and working conditions within prisons are widely acknowledged to contribute to elevated rates of ill health among both prisoners and prison officers. Officers hold a vital role in supporting individuals in custody. However, the intense pressures associated with the role, compounded by toxic workplace cultures, are frequently reported to negatively impact their wellbeing. This deterioration not only affects officers personally but can also compromise the effective functioning of the prison service. While structured su
