Cubital Tunnel Release in a Patient With Parsonage-Turner Syndrome: A Case Report.

Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS) is a rare peripheral neuropathy characterized by the sudden onset of shoulder pain followed by muscle weakness and atrophy. This condition primarily affects the brachial plexus and may mimic or coexist with other compressive neuropathies. We present a case of a 39-year-old female with a prior diagnosis of PTS who developed progressive right-sided scapular and elbow pain, accompanied by numbness in the fourth and fifth digits of the right hand. Her symptoms had been ongoing for approximately three months. Physical examination revealed atrophy of the intrinsic mus

The impact of grip width on kinetics and kinematics in the shoulder press among resistance-trained men.

This study investigated the impact of grip width on kinematics and kinetics in the seated barbell shoulder press among resistance-trained men. Eleven participants (age: 25.9 ± 3.1 years, height: 180.4 ± 5.4 cm, body mass: 87.0 ± 7.9 kg) performed eight repetitions to failure with a narrow, medium and wide grip width. Statistical parametric mapping was used to analyse kinematics and kinetics during the entire concentric phase of the last repetition. The main findings revealed that narrower grips increased both load lifted, and shoulder, and elbow range of motion. Moreover, grip width influenced

Rare Monteggia Type IV Fracture With Posterior Radial Head Dislocation and Concomitant Glenoid Fracture: A Case Report.

Monteggia fractures are uncommon ulnar fractures with associated radial head dislocation, which are classified into four Bado types. Type IV lesions, involving both forearm fractures with anterior radial head dislocation, are particularly rare. This case describes an exceptionally rare variant in a 23-year-old male patient following a motor vehicle accident: a Bado Type IV Monteggia fracture with posterior radial head dislocation, accompanied by an ipsilateral Ideberg type III glenoid fracture, which was initially missed. Despite prior open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the forearm

Description and Consistency of In-Game Pitching Kinetics' Relationship With Ball Velocity.

Baseball pitchers commonly suffer shoulder and elbow injuries. Previous research on the relationship between pitch velocity and upper extremity kinetics has been limited to laboratory settings, but recent strides in markerless motion capture have allowed analysis of in-game baseball pitching biomechanics. Therefore, our purpose was to provide normative data of in-game pitching kinetics and assess the relationships between pitch velocity and shoulder and elbow kinetics. Data from 183 college pitchers were included in this retrospective analysis of in-game college baseball games. Multilevel mode

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the Evaluation of the Brachialis.

The anterior upper arm is composed of the biceps brachii, the coracobrachialis and the brachialis muscles. Collectively, these 3 muscles flex the elbow. The brachialis is known as the workhorse of the elbow as it functions the same despite rotation of the forearm due to its distal attachment on the ulna. The brachialis sits anatomically directly dorsal to the biceps brachii. Although brachialis muscle injuries are rare, they can occur from either contusions or from repetitive overuse. Diagnostic musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound offers a portable, real-time, and cost-effective alternative that

Radial Tunnel Syndrome: Case Report and Comprehensive Critical Review of a Compression Neuropathy Surrounded by Controversy.

Radial tunnel syndrome (RTS) is an uncommon controversial entity thought to cause chronic lateral proximal forearm pain due to compression of the deep branch of the radial nerve, without paralysis or sensory changes. Diagnostic confusion for pain conditions in this region results from inconsistent definitions, terminology, tests, and descriptions in the literature of RTS and "tennis elbow," or lateral epicondylitis. A case of bilateral RTS with signs discordant with traditionally used clinical diagnostic tests was successfully relieved with surgical decompression and led us to perform a compre

Cubital tunnel syndrome: a surgical modification to in situ decompression to improve results.

BackgroundThe gold standard for surgical treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome is in situ decompression. However, this procedure does not come without complications. Subluxation of the ulnar nerve and ulnar nerve neuritis from adhesion formation remain 2 potential complications after this procedure. It has been shown in the literature that young, active, male patients are most likely to have these complications postoperatively. We have developed a modification to in situ decompression by developing a fascial turnover flap and using a porcine submucosa extracellular matrix (Axogen) to help reduc

Presentation and Management of Displaced Lateral Condylar Mass Fractures With Ipsilateral Displaced Olecranon Fractures in Two Pediatric Cases.

CASES: Two pediatric patients, aged 4 and 6-years-old, presented to a level one children's hospital with displaced lateral condylar mass (LCM) and ipsilateral displaced olecranon fractures after falling directly on to the affected extremity. Both patients underwent surgical fixation of the fractures, one of whom was found to have a laterally dislocated radial head intra-operatively. While one of the patients underwent open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of both the LCM and olecranon fractures, the other patient underwent ORIF of the LCM and closed reduction percutaneous pinning (CRPP) of t

Missed Capitellar Fracture Caused by Avoidance of Radiological Evaluation in Pregnancy.

In this paper, we report a pregnant woman with a missed capitellar fracture of the elbow, who was treated successfully with open reduction and internal fixation using two headless screws. A 29-year-old 6-month pregnant woman presented to the emergency department due to a history of falling on her outstretched hand. A long-arm splint was applied without radiological evaluation due to pregnancy. She came to the orthopaedics and traumatology outpatient clinic 6 weeks after trauma and her examination after splint removal revealed pain and restriction in the elbow joint movements. Radiography was t

[Surgical treatment for distal humerus type C fractures].

Distal humerus type C fracture is a rare and complicated intra-articular injury. Non-surgical treatment is difficult to achieve accurately reduction and reconstruction of articular surface, while open reduction and internal fixation is the best treatment option. Olecranon osteotomy could provide adequate surgical exposure, and is the most commonly used surgical method, but complications such as non-union osteotomy, internal fixation failure occurred. To avoid sacrificing integrity of olecranon, paratricipital approach, triceps reflecting approach, triceps reflectin ganconeus pedicle approach,

Paediatric lateral humeral condylar fracture outcomes at twelve years follow-up as compared with age and sex matched paired controls.

INTRODUCTION: Lateral humeral condylar fractures are the second most common elbow fractures in children. We present the long-term clinical and radiographic results. MATERIAL AND METHODS: All children (<16 years) in the geographic catchment area with lateral condylar fracture were asked to participate and 32 (76.2%) patients enrolled. Clinical and functional results are compared with randomly selected but age and sex matched normal controls at 12.4 years (range 10.6 to 16.0). RESULTS: Unsatisfactory clinical outcomes were found in 40.6% of the fracture cases vs. 6.3% controls (P = 0.003), acc

Antero-lateral minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) with the radial nerve exploration for extra-articular distal-third diaphyseal fractures of the humerus.

INTRODUCTION: Traditional open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of extra-articular distal humerus fractures has a risk of iatrogenic radial nerve injury, extensive soft tissue stripping, and long incision scar. We performed an antero-lateral minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique with the radial nerve exploration for distal-third diaphyseal fractures of the humerus and evaluated clinical and radiographic outcomes through this respective study. METHODS: From April 2010 to June 2016, 28 cases of extra-articular distal-third diaphyseal fractures were treated with an anter

Texture analysis of ultrasound images is a sensitive method to follow-up muscle damage induced by eccentric exercise.

The grey level of co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) is a texture analysis approach accounting for spatial distribution of the pixels from an image and can be a promising method for exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) studies. We followed up the time changes of two GLCM texture parameters and echo intensity (EI) on ultrasound images after eccentric contractions. Thirteen untrained women performed two sets of ten elbow flexions eccentric contractions. Ultrasound images were acquired at baseline and 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 96 h after exercise. Two GLCM texture parameters were calculated for the brachial
