Effects of Inhaled β2-AR Agonists in Athletes According to the WADA 2025 List: New Insights From a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis (CRD420251006746) investigated the impact of inhaled β2-adrenoceptor (AR) agonists (IBA) with exemption according to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2025 list on athletic performance, respiratory, and cardiovascular outcomes. A key subgroup analysis focused on IBA administered within WADA 2025 permitted dose intervals. Findings indicate that IBA significantly improved sprint time by 0.30 s (95% CI 0.52-0.07) overall, and by 0.27 s (95% CI 0.50-0.05) in healthy subjects, with long-acting β2-AR agonists yielding a 0.49 s (95% CI 0.81-0.17) improvement

Functional and biochemical inflammatory responses to low-dose intra-articular recombinant equine IL-1β: a pilot study.

Low-dose intra-articular injection of recombinant equine interleukin-1β (reIL-1β) may offer a useful model for studying early onset or subclinical joint inflammation in horses. This pilot study aimed to determine the lowest intra-articular dose of reIL-1β required to produce biochemical evidence of synovitis, and to correlate synovitis biomarkers with functional, upper-body asymmetry parameters. Saline (control) and 50, and 75 ng reIL-1β were injected into the left or right intercarpal joint of three (n = 3) horses in a three-way crossover design. Synovial fluid was collected by aseptic arthro

Oxygen blenders for prevention of retinopathy of prematurity are highly cost-effective in Uganda.

Blended oxygen has been shown to reduce severe retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) incidence worldwide, and more recently in Uganda. Although it has been established that ROP-driven visual impairment has a substantial societal burden and that screening and treatment programs are cost-effective in low- and middle-income countries, there is limited evidence for the economic impact of prevention with appropriate oxygen management equipment (OME) in these regions. We performed a cost-utility analysis of OME implementation comparing variations ranging between most and least favorable values. Disabilit

Consumer Attitudes, Knowledge, and Consumption Behaviours Toward Game Meat in Romania: Evidence from an Online Convenience Sample.

Game meat is increasingly discussed as a nutrient-rich alternative source of animal protein, although its consumption remains constrained by limited availability, consumer familiarity, and practical or perceptual barriers. This study assessed attitudes, knowledge, perceptions, and consumption behaviours related to game meat among respondents recruited through an online convenience survey in Romania. Following exclusion of three respondents who did not meet the predefined age criterion, 640 participants were included in the analysis. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statisti

A qualitative study to understand the challenges of conducting randomised controlled trials of complex interventions in metastatic colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: The use of interventions such as major liver and lung resection, radiofrequency ablation and transarterial chemoembolization in the management of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is now relatively commonplace in clinical practice. However, the evidence base regarding these treatments is limited with a lack of high-quality data from randomised controlled trials (RCTs). The aim of this study was to understand the challenges associated with conducting RCTs in advanced mCRC and to identify potential strategies to overcome them, with a view to improving trial design and delivery in t

Factors influencing patient decision-making on a multimodal precision medicine algorithm for depression: a qualitative European multicentre study of the PROMPT consortium.

BACKGROUND: Precision medicine promises to improve treatment outcomes by tailoring interventions to patients' individual characteristics. However, the use of precision medicine tools requires patient acceptance, which remains underexplored. This qualitative study investigated factors influencing patient perspectives on a multimodal precision medicine algorithm to predict antidepressant response in patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). METHODS: To explore patients' perspectives on the use of a multimodal algorithm, semi-structured focus groups were conducted with 44 patients

Large-Scale Combat Operation Education and Training Needs: Implications for Military and Civilian Medical Education.

INTRODUCTION: Future large-scale combat operations (LSCO) with adversaries such as Russia or China are predicted to present unique challenges for medical personnel, including high casualty rates, limited resources, and austere environments. While traditionally associated with military conflict, the anticipated scale of future LSCO may overwhelm military medical systems, requiring civilian physicians to support wartime care or manage surges in casualties on the home front. Effective training early on is, therefore, critical to prepare both military and civilian physicians for these unique and d

Preventing Respiratory Viral Illness Invisibly (PRiVII): protocol for a pragmatic cluster randomized trial evaluating far-UVC light devices in long-term care facilities to reduce infections.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory viral illness (RVI)-e.g., influenza, COVID-19-is a serious threat in long-term care (LTC) facilities. Standard infection control measures are suboptimal in LTC facilities because of residents' cognitive impairments, care needs, and susceptibility to loneliness and mental illness. Further, LTC residents living with high degrees of frailty who contract RVIs often develop the so-called atypical symptoms (e.g., delirium, worse mobility) instead of typical cough and fever, delaying infection diagnosis and treatment. Although far-UVC (222 nm) light devices have shown potent a

No Evidence of Progressive Proinflammatory Cytokine Storm in Brain-dead Organ Donors-A Time-course Analysis Using Clinical Samples.

BACKGROUND: Solid organ transplantation is a cost-effective treatment for end-stage organ failure. Organ donation after brain death is an important source of transplanted organs. Data are limited on the effects of brain injury or donor management on grafts. The consensus view has been that brain death creates a progressively proinflammatory environment. We aimed to investigate time-course changes across a range of cytokines in a donation after brain death cohort of donors who died of intracranial hemorrhage without any other systemic source of inflammation. METHODS: A donor cohort was defined
