The Effect of Core Stabilization Exercise with the Abdominal Drawing-in Maneuver Technique on Stature Change during Prolonged Sitting in Sedentary Workers with Chronic Low Back Pain.

To enhance stature recovery, lumbar spine stabilization by stimulating the deep trunk muscle activation for compensation forces originating from the upper body was introduced. The abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM) technique has been found mainly to activate deep trunk muscles. The purpose of the current study was to determine whether 5 weeks of training of deep trunk muscles using the ADIM technique could improve stature recovery, delay trunk muscle fatigue, and decrease pain intensity during prolonged sitting. Thirty participants with chronic low back pain (CLBP) conducted a core stabiliza

The dual effects of information presentation speed on operator performance in dynamic tasks: a study in supervisory control and data acquisition interfaces.

Dynamic elements are increasingly used in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) interfaces to deliver real-time information and improve situational awareness. This study examined how information presentation speed affects operator performance, subjective perception, situational awareness, and eye-tracking metrics. Twenty operators performed simulated monitoring tasks under different speed conditions. Results showed that speeds above 8 degrees/s significantly increased task errors, while speeds at 16 degrees/s further impaired subjective experience and situational awareness. Eye-trac

Invisible battles: the disability paradox and workplace experiences of individuals with lupus.

BACKGROUND: Individuals living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), experience complex interplay between fatigue, mental health challenges, and workplace inclusion. SLE-related fatigue extends beyond physical exhaustion, encompassing cognitive and emotional depletion, while anxiety and depression further compound its effects. By integrating Paradox Theory and the Social Model of Disability, this research conceptualizes how competing workplace demands and structural barriers contribute to employment instability and reinforce exclusion. METHODS: A qualitative research design is employed, dr

The use of muscle activity measures in combat shooting assessments.

Current testing of small-arms weapons focuses on measuring accuracy in optimal, supported positions whereas using a more dynamic test may be more informative. Previous work has shown that accuracy, shot interval, and weapon stability degrades over prolonged shooting and only the latter two measures differ between weapon configurations. The aim of the current study was to evaluate muscle activity to understand if signs of fatigue could add information about the optimal ergonomic weapon. The 200 ms of electromyography from six upper limb muscles immediately before each of 60 shots for four weapo

Cicada rib-inspired tough films through nanoconfined crystallization for use in acoustic transducers.

Acoustic transducers require films that demonstrate both toughness and fatigue resistance, presenting notable challenges when achieved through conventional nanoscale reinforcing strategies. Here, we found that the rib structure of a cicada's tymbal exhibits exceptional toughness and fatigue resistance, attributed to its unique architecture composed of alternating soft and stiff polymer layers. Inspired by this rib structure, we developed a robust artificial rib film (ARF) using a nanoconfined crystallization strategy that involves the deposition of soft polyethylene oxide and stiff phenol form

Visually induced symptoms questionnaire (VISQ): A subjective evaluation method for biomedical effects induced by stereoscopic 3D video.

The purpose of this paper is to establish an easy-to-use questionnaire for subjective evaluations of visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) and visual fatigue caused by stereoscopic 3D (s3D) images. We reviewed previously used questionnaires and extracted 51 important subjective evaluation items from them. We then recruited 251 participants to observe 3D images designed to easily induce sickness or visual fatigue, and we asked them to respond to the 51 items. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, four factors were extracted according to their factor loadings, and the number of items was

Changes in dynamic and kinematic properties of saccades in ocular myasthenia following intravenous immunoglobulin treatment.

The dynamics and kinematics of saccades in a patient with severe ocular myasthenia were studied before and after treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Before therapy, horizontal saccades were hypometric, but faster than similar-sized saccades made by normal subjects. During a 5-minute test period, saccades decreased in size (fatigue effect), but remained faster than those of controls. Listing's plane of the eye with greater ophthalmoplegia was increased in thickness. After IVIG treatment, the range of eye movements improved, but saccades remained faster than those of controls.
