Acute kidney injury induced by mixed poisoning with brodifacoum and bromadiolone: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) are a significant cause of global poisoning events. AR poisoning primarily manifests as multiorgan hemorrhage, while acute kidney injury (AKI) is exceedingly rare. Current understanding of the pathogenesis of AR-induced AKI remains insufficient, potentially leading to diagnostic and therapeutic delays and increasing the risk of progression to chronic kidney disease. This case report aims to describe the clinical characteristics, diagnostic process, and multidisciplinary treatment strategy of a patient with AKI induced by mixed brodifacoum and bromad

Impact of Live Ligilactobacillus salivarius CCFM1332 and Its Postbiotics on Porphyromonas gingivalis Colonization, Alveolar Bone Resorption and Inflammation in a Rat Model of Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by periodontopathic bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), which leads to alveolar bone destruction and systemic inflammation. Emerging evidence suggests that probiotics may mitigate periodontal pathology. To systematically evaluate the alleviative effects and mechanisms of different forms of probiotics, including live bacteria and postbiotics, on periodontitis, we first screened and identified Ligilactobacillus salivarius CCFM1332 (L. salivarius CCFM1332) through in vitro antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity assays.

The effect of dental material type and masticatory forces on periodontitis-derived subgingival microbiomes.

Restorative dental materials can frequently extend below the gingival margin, serving as a potential haven for microbial colonization, and altering the local oral microbiome to ignite infection. However, the contribution of dental materials on driving changes of the composition of the subgingival microbiome is under-investigated. This study evaluated the microbiome-modulating properties of three biomaterials, namely resin dental composites (COM), antimicrobial piezoelectric composites (BTO), and hydroxyapatite (HA), using an optimized in vitro subgingival microbiome model derived from patients

Real-time flow cytometry to assess qualitative and quantitative responses of oral pathobionts during exposure to antiseptics.

UNLABELLED: Antiseptics are widely used in oral healthcare to prevent or treat oral diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis. However, the incidence of bacteria being tolerant to standard antiseptics has sharply increased over the last few years. This stresses the urgency for surveillance against tolerant organisms, as well as the discovery of novel antimicrobials. Traditionally, susceptibility to antimicrobials is assessed by broth micro-dilution or disk diffusion assays, both of which are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and provide limited information on the mode of action of the anti

Clinical and microbiological efficacy of intra-pocket application of diode laser in grade C periodontitis: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is a microbially induced disease destroying structures anchoring teeth to jaw bones. Although metronidazole in combination with spiramycin is the effective conventional treatment of stage III grade C periodontitis, it has several systemic side effects. Laser therapy is widely used nowadays as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) to modulate inflammatory host response and eradicate microbes, due to bactericidal and detoxifying effects. Since microbiological analysis is one of the diagnostic methods identifying periodontal risk; our research aimed to investigate

Chronic Exposure of Gingival Fibroblasts to TLR2 or TLR4 Agonist Inhibits Osteoclastogenesis but Does Not Affect Osteogenesis.

Chronic exposure to periodontopathogenic bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and the products of these bacteria that interact with the cells of the tooth surrounding tissues can ultimately result in periodontitis. This is a disease that is characterized by inflammation-related alveolar bone degradation by the bone-resorbing cells, the osteoclasts. Interactions of bacterial products with Toll-like receptors (TLRs), in particular TLR2 and TLR4, play a significant role in this chronic inflammatory reaction, which possibly affects osteoclastic activity and osteogenic capacity. Little is know

Unculturable and culturable periodontal-related bacteria are associated with periodontal inflammation during pregnancy and with preterm low birth weight delivery.

Recent studies revealed culturable periodontal keystone pathogens are associated with preterm low birth weight (PLBW). However, the oral microbiome is also comprised of hundreds of 'culture-difficult' or 'not-yet-culturable' bacterial species. To explore the potential role of unculturable and culturable periodontitis-related bacteria in preterm low birth weight (PLBW) delivery, we recruited 90 pregnant women in this prospective study. Periodontal parameters, including pocket probing depth, bleeding on probing, and clinical attachment level were recorded during the second trimester and followin

Parvimonas micra stimulates expression of gingipains from Porphyromonas gingivalis in multi-species communities.

Dental biofilms are complex ecosystems containing many bacterial species that live in mutualistic relationships. These interactions can profoundly affect the virulence properties of the community. In this study we investigated how the production of gingipains, virulence factors from Porphyromonas gingivalis important in periodontal disease, was affected by other commonly found members of the sub-gingival microbiome. To mimic the subgingival microbiome, multispecies consortia (P. gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Actinomyces naeslundii, Streptococus oralis, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus

Impact of Docosahexaenoic Acid Therapy on Subgingival Plaque Microbiota.

BACKGROUND: Oral docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) + aspirin therapy has been shown to reduce periodontal probing depth (PD) and local inflammatory mediators in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) among patients with untreated chronic periodontal disease. Whether DHA + aspirin therapy influences specific bacterial burden in this setting is unknown. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of DHA with low-dose aspirin therapy on periodontal bacterial profile in patients with periodontitis. METHODS: Fifty-five adults with moderate-to-severe periodontitis were enrolled in a randomized, 3-month

Characterizing Diversity of Lactobacilli Associated with Severe Early Childhood Caries: A Study Protocol.

Lactobacilli have been consistently associated with dental caries for decades; however, knowledge of this group of bacteria in the etiology of the disease is limited to quantitative elucidation. Nowadays, explicit identification of oral Lactobacillus species is possible, despite their taxonomic complexity. Here we describe a combined approach involving both cultivation and genetic methods to ascertain and characterize the diversity and abundance of the Lactobacillus population in the oral cavities of children with severe early childhood caries (S-ECC). Eighty 3- to 6-year-old children (40 S-EC
