BACKGROUND: ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease) family members, characterized by a metalloprotease and a disintegrin domain, are membrane-anchored glycoproteins involved in proteolysis and cell adhesion. OBJECTIVE: The hyaluronate receptor CD44 is a cell surface protein that is involved in several functions. To elucidate whether CD44 plays a role in periapical lesions, an immunohistochemical technique was used to study its distribution.

Diagnosis of neurocysticercosis is performed by Western blotting with an enriched fraction of glycoproteins (LLGP). GP39-42 and GP24 are immunodominant antigens. These antigens were electroeluted and characterized by biochemical methods. When GP39-42 or GP24 were reduced, a band of 10 kDa (named GP10) appeared; this band was also analyzed. The most abundant amino acids in the three GPs were lysine, phenylalanine, asparagine, glycine, and leucine. Fibronectin, laminin and tenascin play an important part in the assembly of the extracellular matrix and the interaction of cells with it. In this study, changes in their expression and distribution associated with tuberous sclerosis are reported.
