A covalent organic framework-enhanced hydrogel based on carboxylated cellulose nanofibers and water hyacinth carbon for efficient capture of dyes and heavy metal ions.

To remediate dye and heavy metal contamination in industrial wastewater, a novel ternary hydrogel adsorbent (COF@CCNF/WHC) was fabricated via radical polymerization using water hyacinth-derived carbon (WHC), carboxylated cellulose nanofibers (C-CNF) and covalent organic framework (COF). Compared with conventional biomass carbon and pure COF, this hydrogel suppresses powder agglomeration and improves separation performance, achieving high-efficiency water purification and providing a viable solution for the sustainable strategy of "treating waste with waste." Multiple characterizations verified

An NIR-Triggered Self-Propelled Janus Nanomotor-Integrated Hydrogel with Enzymatic Cascade Reactions and Photothermal-Enhanced Drug Release for the Treatment of Gouty Arthritis.

Gouty arthritis is characterized by monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposition, persistent joint inflammation, oxidative stress, and limited drug penetration. Here, we report an injectable hydrogel system embedding asymmetric Janus nanomotors (Col-PLGA@Au-CU) that integrates enzymatic cascade reaction, photothermal propulsion, and on-demand drug release for active gout therapy. The nanomotors consist of colchicine-loaded PLGA cores partially coated with gold nanoshells and functionalized with uricase (UOx) and catalase (CAT), which are encapsulated in a chitosan-based hydrogel for intra-articul

Hydrogel Microneedle-Integrated Electrochemical Sensor With Negative-Potential Readout Toward Wash-Free and Anti-Interference Monitoring of miRNAs in Tumor Interstitial Fluid.

Electrochemical quantification of microRNAs (miRNAs) in tumor interstitial fluid (TIF) may provide complementary molecular information for tumor microenvironment assessment, but analytical accuracy is often limited by extraction-induced biomarker loss/degradation and background interference from endogenous electroactive metabolites. Herein, a hydrogel microneedle-integrated electrochemical biosensor is developed as a complementary ex vivo molecular sensing approach for wash-free and anti-interference monitoring of miRNAs via negative-potential readout. The sensing platform employs a four-way j

Self-healing quaternized chitosan-phenylboronic hydrogel with ceria nanozymes and stem-cell exosomes simultaneously eradicates MRSA biofilm and regenerates diabetic wounds.

Diabetic wounds represent a major clinical challenge due to their susceptibility to bacterial biofilm infections, persistent oxidative stress, and impaired tissue regeneration. Current therapeutic approaches typically address these pathological factors individually, limiting their overall efficacy in achieving complete wound closure. There is thus an urgent need for integrated platforms capable of simultaneously targeting multiple barriers to healing. Here we show that a self-healing hydrogel composed of quaternized chitosan-phenylboronic acid (QCSP), ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs), and embryonic

Transcriptomic responses of gill and intestinal tissues in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to bacterial infection following sequential nanoimmersion and hydrogel-based multivalent vaccination.

Bacterial pathogens, including Flavobacterium oreochromis, Aeromonas veronii, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Edwardsiella tarda, represent major infectious threats to Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A multivalent vaccination strategy integrating cationic nanoemulsion immersion with oral hydrogel boosters was developed to investigate tissue-specific immune responses at the transcriptomic level. Gill tissues were collected following immersion challenge and intestinal tissues following intraperitoneal injection challenge, reflecting the physiologically relevant infection biology of each path

Non-monotonic concentration-dependent hydrogel formation of α-Lactalbumin induced by glycyrrhizin: Mechanistic insights from multi-spectroscopic and molecular dynamics approaches.

The non-monotonic concentration-dependent formation mechanism of α-lactalbumin (α-La) and glycyrrhizin (Gy) composite hydrogels was systematically investigated using multi-technique approaches combined with molecular dynamics simulations. Phase diagrams showed that gelation occurred only within specific windows (α-La 0.1-1.0% w/v, Gy 3.0-15.0 mM), with Gy thresholds increasing from 3.0 to 15.0 mM as α-La rose, whereas no gel formed at α-La ≥2.0%. Hydrophobic interactions dominated network assembly (56-79% contribution), accompanied by conformational rearrangements. All gels exhibited shear-thi

Amplification-Free and Label-Free Multiplexed Profiling of Extracellular Vesicle-Derived MicroRNA via Micropore Sensing Based on PNA-Functionalized Hydrogel Barcodes.

Extracellular vesicle (EV)-derived microRNA (miRNA) is a promising biomarker for various diseases, including cancer. However, the current EV-miRNA detection technologies, such as RT-qPCR and microarray, have depended on the complex amplification and labeling processes, which are not preferred for constructing an on-site diagnosis system. Herein, we present an EV-miRNA detection platform utilizing micropore sensing based on peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-functionalized hydrogel barcodes. Based on the low background signal and high affinity to the miRNA of the PNA probes, the breast cancer-related m

Senomorphic Small Extracellular Vesicles Delivered by a Tissue-Adhesive α-Lipoic-Acid Hydrogel Enable Immuno-Rejuvenation for Bone-Tendon Interface Regeneration.

Chronic inflammation-driven bone loss in aging compromises bone regeneration and further impairs the bone-tendon interface (BTI). However, the cellular mechanisms by which inflammation exacerbates cellular senescence and consequently disrupts BTI healing remain unclear. Here, we identify M1 macrophage-mediated inflammation as a key driver of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) senescence and bone microstructural deterioration. This senescence-associated decline in BMSCs ultimately compromises osteogenesis and delays BTI repair. To counteract these effects, we engineered a senomo

Multifunctional nanocomposite hydrogel coordinates immunogenic cell death and active species scavenging for effective preoperative in situ vaccination against breast cancer recurrence.

In situ immunomodulation prior to surgery represents a promising strategy to elicit potent antitumor immunity and prevent postoperative recurrence, yet it faces the fundamental challenge of balancing sufficient immunostimulation against local hyperinflammation. To address this, we developed a multifunctional nanocomposite hydrogel that synchronizes immunogenic cell death (ICD) induction with multi-target active species regulation. Upon peritumoral co-injection of gallic acid-grafted chitosan (CS-GA), N-aminoethyl-N'-benzoylthiourea-functionalized oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA-BTU), and allomel

Hydrosurgical debridement system combined with negative pressure wound therapy for the treatment of large chronic wounds caused by polyacrylamide hydrogel injection for breast augmentation.

BACKGROUND: Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG) is a synthetic, gelatinous chemical substance commonly used as an injectable filler in breast augmentation surgery. However, its decomposition within several years postoperative often leads to various complications, causing significant physical and psychological distress to patients. The key to treatment is thorough debridement and wound drainage. Traditional debridement methods have limitations, such as long duration, significant trauma, and incomplete debridement. A hydrosurgical debridement system offers a new approach to wound healing. CASE REPOR

Injectable, self-healing and wound microenvironment responsive hydrogel for photothermal, chemodynamic, and hydrogen sulfide gas synergistic therapy of the infected diabetic wound healing.

Bacteria-infected diabetic wounds represent a significant global healthcare concern. Uncontrolled bacterial infection results in excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), sustained inflammatory responses and immunosuppression, which seriously impede healing processes. Conventional antibiotic treatments are often inadequate for addressing these challenges and concurrently pose the risk of promoting bacterial resistance. Here, an injectable, self-healing, and wound microenvironment-responsive hydrogel (HA-PBA/OAP/FeS@PC) with photothermal effects, chemodynamic therapy, and hydrogen

In Vivo Safety Characterization of Injectable Amidated TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Nanofiber Hydrogel Vaccine Formulations in Farmed Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.).

Background: Disease outbreaks remain a major constraint on aquaculture production, making vaccination essential for disease management in farmed fish. However, injectable oil-adjuvanted vaccines can be costly and may induce adverse inflammatory reactions and welfare concerns, motivating investigations into alternative injectable adjuvant materials. Methods: We conducted an in vivo safety evaluation of shear-thinning, amidated TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber (TO-CNF) hydrogels formulated with an inactivated Vibrio anguillarum bacterin. Nerve Growth Factor Gene Delivery via Nanosphere-Hydrogel Composites and Tendon-Bone Interface Healing in a Rat Rotator Cuff Tear Model.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff repair (RCR) often fails because of poor tendon-bone interface (TBI) healing. Nerve growth factor (NGF) has been shown to regulate tenocyte function and promote regeneration, but it lacks sufficient systematic research, limiting its clinical translation. PURPOSE: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of NGF-encoding plasmid (pNGF) for TBI healing in a rat acute rotator cuff tear (RCT) model, delivered via nanosphere-hydrogel (NP-GEL) composites. POM@Cu-MOF/Hydrogel Quasi-Solid Electrolyte-Integrated ECL Biosensor for miRNA-155 Detection in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Diagnosis.

This study developed a novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for detecting miRNA-155, integrating polyoxometalate@metal-organic framework (POM@Cu-MOF) as a luminescent nanoprobe with a highly conductive hydrogel (PIL-Zn-SBMA) as a quasi-solid electrolyte. On the one hand, polyoxometalate was encapsulated in the Cu-MOF through host-guest interactions. Therefore, the modulated local microenvironment in POM@Cu-MOF suppressed low-energy emission and significantly improved the ECL performance of Cu-MOF. On the other hand, zwitterions formed high-speed ion-transport pathways in the PIL-Zn-S

Gelatin methacryloyl/hyaluronic acid hydrogel for localized ropivacaine delivery alleviates neuropathic pain and supports functional recovery after spinal cord injury.

Neuropathic pain caused by spinal cord injury severely compromises patients' quality of life. The clinical application of ropivacaine is limited by its short duration of action and the significant side effects associated with repeated administration. In this study, we developed a Gelatin methacryloyl/hyaluronic acid-based hydrogel (Ropi-GelMA/HA) to enable localized and controlled delivery of ropivacaine by photo-crosslinking. In a rat model of spinal cord contusion, Ropi-GelMA/HA was associated with lower Nav1.3 and TNF-α expression and higher NGF and BDNF expression, together with improved m

Astragalus polysaccharide-based thermoresponsive hydrogel loaded with β-elemene nanoemulsion in combination with anti-PD-L1 therapy for triple-negative breast cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is classified as an immunologically cold tumor, which markedly weakens the therapeutic efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) represented by anti-PD-L1 therapy. To overcome this limitation, an astragalus polysaccharide (APS)-based thermoresponsive hydrogel loaded with a β-elemene (ELE) nanoemulsion (ELE-NE-gel) was developed in this study with the aim of enhancing ICB efficacy by inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD) and remodeling the tumor immune microenvironment. In vitro assays proved that ELE-NE-gel efficiently eliminated 4 T1 cells and successfu

Porphyrin‑manganese trioxide-doped chitosan hydrogel with self‑oxygen supply enhancing photodynamic therapy effect for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory of infected wounds.

To combat microbial infection and persistent inflammation of wounds, the increasing type and dosage of antibiotics in wound dressing results in the formation of drug-resistant bacteria, which seriously delays the healing of infected wounds. Thus, to develop alternative antibacterial wound dressings independent of antibiotics is imperative. In this work, we established a novel degradable hybrid nanohydrogel material (TAPP/Mn3O4@CS-GA) with antibacterial and anti-inflammation effects by loading 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (4-aminophenyl)-21H,23H-porphine (TAPP) with PDT function and Mn3O4 with SOD and C

Hyaluronic Acid-Based Injectable Dual-Network Hydrogel for 6'-Sialyllactose Mimetic Peptide Delivery and Microenvironment Reconstruction in Brachial Plexus Root Avulsion.

Brachial plexus root avulsion (BPRA) results in extensive motor neurons (MNs) loss, muscle atrophy, and irreversible motor dysfunction. Current surgical strategies with reimplantation fail to promote the motor recovery often leading to poor clinical outcomes, because of the too slow re-growth of the axons of MNs to re-innervate the target muscles before atrophy happens. To reconstruct the neuroprotective microenvironment to reduce the MNs death following BPRA, we developed an injectable dual-network HGα composite hydrogel encapsulating a 6'-sialyllactose (6'-SL) mimetic peptide. The HGα hydrog
