Implants inserted with graftless osteotome sinus floor elevation - A 5-year post-loading retrospective study.

PURPOSE: To report the outcome of graftless osteotome sinus floor elevation (OSFE) in order to evaluate whether apical bone gain depends on the initial residual bone height and whether the initial residual bone height has an influence on the amount of marginal bone loss. Furthermore the study aimed to assess if perforations of the Schneiderian membrane or residual bone height are potential predictors of implant survival. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study all patients were included who were treated between 2001 and 2010 and received dental implants in combination with OSFE in

Minimally invasive endoscopic middle meatal antrostomy for the prevention of maxillary sinusitis in association with dental implantation in the posterior maxilla--a proposal.

Penetration of the maxillary sinus floor membrane during sinus lift occasionally induces maxillary sinusitis. However, maxillary sinusitis may still develop even when its floor membrane has been kept intact during such procedures. The decisive factor for the occurrence of maxillary sinusitis is not the integrity of the membrane; more important is the patency of the maxillary sinus natural ostium. The occlusion of the natural ostium presumably results from the expansive edema of the sinus membrane induced by surgical manipulations to the maxillary sinus floor. We propose a minimally invasive en

Total laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cholangiojejunostomy for the treatment of biliary disease.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Roux-en-Y cholangiojejunostomy (RCJS) has been widely used in biliary bypass surgeries, but in most reported literature, an assisted miniincision was needed, and studies reporting total laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cholangiojejunostomy (TLRCJS) are rare. The goal of this study was to investigate how to treat hepatic portal bile duct diseases and perform jejunojejunostomy and cholangiojejunostomy totally laparoscopically. We evaluated the feasibility of TLRCJS in treating biliary tract diseases. METHODS: TLRCJS were performed in 103 patients from January 2000 to August 201

COVID-19 pandemic and elective spinal surgery cancelations - what happens to the patients?

Background contextThe COVID-19 pandemic caused nationwide suspensions of elective surgeries due to reallocation of resources to the care of COVID-19 patients. Following resumption of elective cases, a significant proportion of patients continued to delay surgery, with many yet to reschedule, potentially prolonging their pain and impairment of function and causing detrimental long-term effects.PurposeThe aim of this study was to examine differences between patients who have and have not rescheduled their spine surgery procedures originally cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to evaluate

Novel approaches to minimize intraoperative bleeding during endoscopic submucosal dissection of a large rectal lateral spreading tumor extended to the dentate line with internal hemorrhoids.

Video 1Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of large rectal lateral spreading tumors (LSTs) that extend to the dentate line with internal hemorrhoids is a challenging procedure because of the increased risk of bleeding from penetrating and hemorrhoidal vessels and the reduced visual field caused by the dilated venous packages and the narrow anal lumen. This video describes novel technical approaches to minimize the risk of intraoperative bleeding. The described approaches are indicated in large rectal LSTs that extend to the dentate line with large internal hemorrhoids. The described selective
