Lymphatic malformations remain a therapeutic challenge. Many treatments by the past led to poor success. The wide variety of clinical presentations makes it difficult to outline specific management programs. Often, diagnosis or complication circumstances as infection, bleeding, airway obstruction, or handicap force acting. Thus, a specific follow-up joined to a multidisciplinary analysis are the key of well-planned surgery. Through our experience and a review of literature, we will describe principles of lymphatic malformations surgery and specific technics for specific locations.

Dual disability involving amputation and hemiplegia is relatively rare. The vast majority of these cases involve lower extremity amputations. In this report two patients sustained a right-sided hemiplegia complicating an old left upper extremity amputation. Through the comprehensive rehabilitation program these two patients were able to make gains, especially in some activities of daily living and in lower extremity functions. Since some of the upper extremity activities, such as dressing or bathing, could not be accomplished, it appears that patients with upper extremity amputation who have a

BACKGROUND: Middle and distal insets of gastroepiploic vascularized lymph node transfer (GE-VLNT) for extremity lymphedema have been described. However, there has been no prior comparison of surgical or patient-reported outcomes between these techniques. We analyzed the outcomes between both insets in patients with extremity lymphedema.
METHODS: Retrospective review of patients with extremity-lymphedema who underwent GE-VLNT. Two groups were analyzed: middle and distal recipient inset. We analyzed 6-month surgical and patient-reported outcomes using the Lymphedema Life Impact Scale-v2 (LLISv2

Periarticular injuries of the lower extremity are known for wound healing and infection complications. The role for incisional negative pressure wound therapy for lower extremity periarticular fractures has expanded over the last 10 years in hopes of minimizing complications. To date, there is no standardized published protocol of how negative pressure wound therapy is best used in lower extremity periarticular fractures. A review of strategies to decrease complications associated with the operative management of lower extremity periarticular fractures to include the use of incisional negative

BACKGROUND: The use of computed tomography (CT) scanning in trauma has tripled in the past decade in adults and children alike. There is growing concern about the long-term risks of radiation delivery in childhood. There is little information in the literature on radiation exposure during extremity CT in children. This study evaluated the radiation dose and geographic bodily exposure to the child/adolescent during extremity CT.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 163 patients (girls aged 0.5-19 years and boys aged 3.1-19 years) who sustained an orthopedic extremity injury that required a CT sc

Distal lower extremity wounds are a challenging problem for reconstructive surgeons and can lead to major lower extremity amputations in patients with comorbid conditions. The reverse sural artery flap (RSAF) is a local flap supplied by perforators of the peroneal artery that can cover defects of the distal lower extremity, ankle, and foot. There has been concern over performing the RSAF in patients with venous insufficiency, peripheral artery disease, and diabetes, and in older patients due to the increased risk of flap necrosis. In patients who are not microsurgical candidates, the RSAF may

INTRODUCTION: A 45-year-old female presented with 8 hours of right lower extremity pain and dyspnea. She was tachycardic and her right lower extremity was dusky, cold, and pulseless.
DISCUSSION: Computerized tomography of the venous and arterial systems revealed massive pulmonary embolism and right lower extremity arterial and left lower extremity venous thromboses. Management included intra-arterial thrombolytics, right lower extremity arterial embolectomy, and anticoagulation. Echocardiogram revealed a patent foramen ovale (PFO) with a right-to-left shunt.
CONCLUSION: We hypothesize that o

BACKGROUND: Older people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) make up over one-third of the MS population. Ageing increases the risk of sarcopenia, characterised by reduced muscle mass, strength, and function. MS symptoms likely exacerbate sarcopenia, but its impact on older pwMS remains largely unexplored OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this study was to investigate how the diagnosis of sarcopenia using the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 (EWGSOP2) diagnostic tool in older pwMS is influenced by using upper extremity-based or lower extremity-based tests.
METHODS: The present c

Neuroprostheses capable of providing Somatotopic Sensory Feedback (SSF) enables the restoration of tactile sensations in amputees, thereby enhancing prosthesis embodiment, object manipulation, balance and walking stability. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) represents a primary non-invasive technique for eliciting somatotopic sensations. Devices commonly used to evaluate the effectiveness of TENS stimulation are often bulky and main powered. However, current portable TENS devices frequently fall short of key functional requirements, particularly in terms of stimulation paramet

BACKGROUND: Upper extremity lymphedema (UEL) and lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) can develop as a result of lymph node dissection in the treatment of various malignancies. While emerging microsurgical interventions using lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) and vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) show promising outcomes for patients with lymphedema, the best approach to implementing the two procedures remains to be defined. This systematic review and meta-analysis provide a comprehensive overview of published literature on the clinical improvement of extremity lymphedema in patients who und

Pedaling is a physical exercise practiced with either the upper or the lower limbs. Muscle coordination during these exercises has been previously studied using electromyography and synergy analysis, and three to four synergies have been identified for the lower and upper limbs. The question of synergy adaptabilities has not been investigated during pedaling with the upper limbs, and the impact of various modalities is yet not known. This study investigates the effect of pedal type (either clipped/gripped or flat) on the torque performance and the synergy in both upper and lower limbs. Torques
