Angelica dahurica (A. dahurica) is an important medicinal plant in China; however, its production is affected by viral infections, leading to reduced yields and quality. In this study, we identified a novel carlavirus, tentatively named Angelica carlavirus virus (AnCV), in the leaves of A. dahurica exhibiting mosaic and leaf crinkling symptoms. Notably, the complete genome of AnCV was 8562 nt long and contained six open reading frames, with a genomic organization typical of the genus Carlavirus. AnCV exhibited 44.5-57.8% nucleotide identity at the whole-genome level with known members of the g

Potato virus Y (PVY) and potato leafroll virus (PLRV) are the most damaging viruses for potato production worldwide. Mixed infections not only result in additive detrimental effects on plant growth and tuber yield but also complicate the development of durable and broad-spectrum viral resistance. Heterologous protection against PVY can be achieved through the expression of the coat protein (CP) of lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) (CPLMV), conferring resistance via a capsid protein-mediated mechanism. On the other hand, we have previously demonstrated that transgenic lines expressing the PLRV ORF2 (R

The persistent emergence of infectious diseases has underscored the critical demand for next-generation vaccine technologies that are safe, effective, and scalable. This review explores virus biomimetic delivery systems, focusing on virus-like particles (VLPs) and virosomes as promising platforms for vaccine and therapeutic development. VLPs are self-assembled nanostructures composed of viral structural proteins that mimic native virions without carrying genetic material, while virosomes are reconstituted viral envelopes that retain functional glycoproteins but lack a nucleocapsid. Both system

The rapid growth in global population and the incessant demand for food warrant greater attention to sustainable agricultural practices. To ensure adequate food security, protection of crops from exposure to biotic agents (e.g., pathogens and insects) is imperative. Over the decades, synthetic pesticides have been used to control pests in agriculture. However, excessive and uncontrolled use of these chemical compounds causes serious environmental and health hazards. Therefore, algal biopesticides are used as biological agents to control soil-borne diseases and plant pests. The algae secrete a

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-bound, nano-sized particles released by diverse cell types. They serve as key mediators of intercellular communication by transporting a broad repertoire of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites to recipient cells within a protective lipid bilayer. Owing to their natural origin, intrinsic stability, low immunogenicity, and ability to cross biological barriers, EVs are highly attractive candidates for next-generation therapeutics and drug delivery platforms. In this review, we summarize the biology of EVs and highlight the features critical f

Oxidative stress is a key driver of chronic inflammatory diseases. Anodendron affine is a native Formosan plant species in Taiwan that remains largely underexplored phytochemically and bioactivity. To reveal the bioactive constituents and assess its potential as a source of anti-inflammatory antioxidants, we performed bioactivity-guided fractionation and evaluated the inhibition of superoxide anion (O2•-) generation in formyl-L-methionyl-L-leucyl-L-phenylalanine-stimulated human neutrophils. Molecular docking simulations were employed to model interactions with Formyl peptide receptor 1 (FPR1)

Fusarium oxysporum, a pathogenic fungus distributed worldwide, causes destructive diseases, such as plant wilt, crown rot, root rot, and fruit rot. Sterol demethylation inhibitors (DMIs), which are the most widely used fungicides, inhibit cytochrome P450 sterol 14α-demethylase (CYP51) during sterol biosynthesis. Fusarium species contain three homologous CYP51 genes, FoCYP51A, FoCYP51B, and FoCYP51C. Previous studies have shown that the deletion of individual CYP51 genes does not significantly affect phenotype-related indicators, such as growth rate and sporulation, in Fusarium species, such as
