Social service professionals' perceptions of nonoffending caregivers in child sexual abuse cases.

This study was designed to assess social service workers' perceptions of nonoffending caregivers in cases of child sexual abuse. Attributions of blame were examined by administering questionnaires to staff at local social service agencies. It was hypothesized that social service workers who worked in the field longer, were male, or had less education would attribute more blame to the nonoffending caregivers. The findings revealed that respondent gender was the only significant predictor of blame attribution toward nonoffending caregivers, with level of education approaching significance as a p

"Caution! Contents should be cold": developing a whole-body hypothermia program.

Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is characterized as brain injury that results from lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain in the perinatal period. Neonatal whole-body hypothermia and selective head cooling are becoming increasingly common care practices across the U.S. and Canada for infants with moderate-to-severe HIE because of the demonstrated ability of these approaches to reduce reperfusion injury to the brain. Health care professionals must develop a clinical care path for these fragile infants. For best results, induced hypothermia should be initiated within six hours of birth;

Prosthodontic management of older severe hypodontia patients in general dental practice: a case series.

Although a detailed understanding of the etiology of hypodontia is lacking, there is a need for awareness among dental professionals of the social and psychological consequences of severe hypodontia, as well as knowledge of those affected by hypodontia have ongoing dental treatment needs. Although, there may be a need for immediate referral of children to different specialists for optimal multidisciplinary treatment planning, most older patients with severe hypodontia can be treated by general practitioners. Practitioners therefore need to be aware of the ramifications of the condition and be

Regional and international integrated telemedicine network for organ transplant (HC 4028 & IN 4028 European Commission DGXIII).

A substantial portion of future medical practice will depend greatly on improved collaboration between the providers throughout the healthcare sector, and effective sharing of data and expertise by different healthcare professionals. In organ transplant it is a rule, donor organs are matched to recipients via national or multinational organ-sharing organizations. Only through close co-operation between transplant surgeons, immunologists, nephrologists, pathologists, radiologists and other physicians could one increase the efficiency of organ transplantation. Relationship Between Perspective-Taking, Boundary-Crossing Experiences, and Collaborative Practice in Discharge Planning Among Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Study.

AIM: Effective discharge planning requires ward nurses to understand the circumstances of receiving facilities. Perspective-taking-the active cognitive process of imagining another party's situation-may play a central role in promoting interfacility collaboration. This study examined a theoretical process model that positions perspective-taking, nurses' boundary-crossing experiences, and their collaborative practice in discharge planning. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with acute care nurses in Japan in 2021. Perspective-taking and collaborative practice in discharge p

Caregiving Practices Shaping Early Motor Development in Infancy: A Focused Ethnographic Study.

BACKGROUND: Early motor development is often addressed through structured developmental guidance; however, less is known about how caregivers interpret and enact developmental practices within everyday life. Understanding how caregivers interpret and organise developmental activities within everyday caregiving routines is essential for informing child health practice. METHODS: A focused ethnographic study was conducted with 13 caregivers of infants under 18 months. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews and field observations and analysed using Spradley's ethnographic analytic

An update on factors affecting umbilical cord care among mothers: A review.

Umbilical cord care remains a critical aspect of newborn health, yet practices vary significantly across different cultures and healthcare settings. This paper aims to provide an updated synthesis of the factors influencing umbilical cord care among mothers. The umbilical cord is a vital link between the fetus and the placenta during pregnancy, but after birth, it requires proper care to prevent infections. Numerous factors influence a mother's approach to umbilical cord care, including cultural beliefs, socio-economic status, access to healthcare information, and traditional practices passed

International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Clinical Practice Guideline for Treatment of Congenital Haemophilia-A Critical Appraisal.

INTRODUCTION: Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines drive optimal patient care and facilitate access to high-quality treatment. Creating guidelines for rare diseases such as haemophilia, where evidence does not often come from randomized controlled trials but from non-randomized and well-designed observational studies and real-world data, is challenging. The methodology used for assessing available evidence should consider this critical fact. In formulating guidelines, it is essential to include treatment goals and patient preference. AIM: This paper comprehensively critiques, against t

[Pediatric aphereses (workshop SFGM-TC)].

Practice of pediatric aphereses - in particular when caring for low-weight children - differs from the practice of adult aphereses, since pediatric aphereses represent low numbers of procedures, which has practical implications in terms of practical training and retraining for involved healthcare personnel, as needed for habilitation and validation of ongoing competencies. A specific training is mandatory in order to ensure both the child and the staff safety during and after collection, as well as ensure high quality of the collected cell product and that its meets predefined specifications t

Doing and undoing transgender health care: The ordering of 'gender dysphoria' in clinical practice.

A formal Gender Dysphoria classification- as outlined in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders- is a prerequisite for the reimbursement of both gender-affirming medical care and transgender mental health care in the Netherlands. Gender Dysphoria and its conceptual precursors have always been moving targets: moving due to research, policy, care practices and activism both within and outside of medicine. This raises the question of what Gender Dysphoria is exactly. To elucidate this question, we turn to the people who use the concept in clinical practice

Clinician views and experiences of non-invasive prenatal genetic screening tests in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS) is being increasingly used by expectant parents. Much provision of this test in Australia is occurring in clinical settings where specialised genetic counselling is unavailable, such as general practice. Potential psychosocial consequences from this kind of prenatal genetic screening remain largely unexplored. AIMS: To explore clinicians' experiences with NIPS for aneuploidy, their perspectives of the benefits and harms of NIPS, clinicians' information needs, and their perceptions of the needs of expectant parents. Anatomy education in occupational therapy curricula: Perspectives of practitioners in the United States.

The study of human anatomy is an integral component in the education of future occupational therapists, yet there is a paucity of research that explores the anatomy needs of students and new practitioners. As a follow up from a pilot study that surveyed a small cohort of practicing therapists, this article aimed to determine occupational therapy (OT) practitioners' views on anatomy course structure and content deemed important to include in OT curricula, entry level practitioners' anatomy knowledge, and application of anatomy in current practice. A Likert scale and free text questionnaire was

Care planning for long-term conditions – a concept mapping.

OBJECTIVE: This article focuses on approaches within clinical practice that seek to actively involve patients with long-term conditions (LTCs) and how professionals may understand and implement them. Personalized care planning is one such approach, but its current lack of conceptual clarity might have impeded its widespread implementation to date. A variety of overlapping concepts coexist in the literature, which have the potential to impair both clinical and research agendas. The aim of this article is therefore to explore the meaning of the concept of care planning in relation to other overl
