The effect of multiple opioid receptor agonists on plasma immunoreactive atrial natriuretic factor (IR-ANF) was studied in conscious non-hydrated rats. We found that mu-opioid receptor agonists, given subcutaneously, increased plasma IR-ANF, while kappa-receptor agonists did not alter the plasma levels of IR-ANF. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAp), an intracellular protein specific to astrocytes of the central nervous system, was determined by 2-site immunoradiometric assay in amniotic fluid from 78 pregnancies with a normal, and 100 with an abnormal outcome. The effect of long-term protein deprivation and refeeding on delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) and humoral immune function was investigated in rats. In an attempt to explain hyperthyroidism in hydatidiform mole, concentrations of immunoreactive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) together with human-chorionic gonadotrophin (beta-hCG) were measured in the serous fluid obtained from 43 patients aged 15-45 years and with amenorrhea 11-31 weeks. Elevated concentrations of these two hormones were found in all samples. It is probable that hyperthyroidism could stem from TSH immunologically similar to pituitary TSH and distinct from hCG and luteinizing hormone (LH) that we have identified in hydatid vesicles.

Osteocalcin, also called bone gla-protein, is a bone matrix protein synthetized specifically by osteoblasts. It circulates in blood where it can be assayed by the radioimmune method. We measured osteocalcin serum levels in 169 adult controls and 161 patients with different disseminated or localized bone diseases. The normal concentration of 6.2 +/- 0.2 ng/ml increases significantly with age. To determine the concentrations and molecular forms of urinary IgA in IgA nephropathy and Henoch-Schoenlein purpura, we studied 29 patients with these IgA-associated renal diseases (IgAN).
