Developing a Prediction Model for Suicidality Among COVID-19 Patients in Korea Using Timely Data From the National Center for Disaster and Trauma.

BACKGROUND: To date, no study has developed a predictive model based on the timely data (diagnosed within a month) of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to develop screening tools and a model for predicting suicidality based on data from patients diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past month. METHODS: We analyzed data from 96,694 COVID-19 patients collected by the Korean National Center for Disaster and Trauma. Using classification and regression tree (CART) and random forest models, we predicted suicidality based on 39 features, including demographic informat

Between-country differences in the psychosocial profiles of British cattle farmers.

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial factors are important for the uptake of livestock disease control measures by farmers and can differ by region, which would have implications for disease control nationally. METHODS: We investigated altruism, trust, psychological proximity and the COM-B behaviour change framework in a survey of 475 British cattle farmers in 2020. Using regression models, we studied associations between the country farmers lived in and psychosocial and behaviour change factors. RESULTS: There were many between-country differences in farmers' psychosocial and COM-B profiles. Accounting

Examining associations among food insecurity, muscularity-oriented disordered eating, and internalizing symptoms in undergraduate students.

Food insecurity (FI) is a serious public health concern linked to negative physical and mental outcomes, including eating disorder symptoms. However, little is known about its relationship with muscularity-oriented disordered eating (MODE), which involves eating behaviours aimed at increasing muscle mass and decreasing body fat. This study examined the association between FI and MODE, as well as the potential indirect effects of depression and anxiety. A sample of 394 undergraduate students (72.34 % women) from a Canadian university completed online self-report measures of FI, MODE, depression

Assessment of Factors Associated With Dehydration and Its Relationship With Depression in Individuals Aged Over 80 Years.

BACKGROUND: The detection and management of dehydration represent critical challenges within the older adult population. Although the factors influencing dehydration have been studied previously, its psychological impacts have mostly been examined in younger populations. This study investigated the associated factors for dehydration and its relationship with depression in individuals aged over 80 years. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 263 individuals aged 80 and above who visited the Healthy Aging Center of a tertiary hospital between March and September 2024. Data

Correlates of climate change distress: The difference to general distress.

INTRODUCTION: Climate change has significant consequences on mental health, which are summarized under concepts like eco-anxiety or climate change distress. However, these recently developed concepts still suffer from a lack of clarity. AIM: The aim of this study is to improve the conceptual clarity of climate change distress through analysing its' correlations with various psychological and demographic factors. In this context, the specific associations of climate change distress are compared to those of general distress. METHODS: In a cross-sectional study N = 1000 participants completed a

Changes in delayed sleep patterns and related clinical factors in a social restriction environment.

We aimed to investigate which factors, including socioenvironmental factors and emotional regulation, were associated with pronounced delayed sleep patterns during the COVID-19 social restriction. We evaluated 744 adults aged 20-65 y using a web-based survey with a self-reported questionnaire in May 2022. Based on the survey, we estimated the mid-sleep time on free days corrected for oversleeping on free days (MSFsc) and social jet lag (SJL). We determined delayed sleep patterns using ΔMSFsc, which was defined as the difference between MSFsc during the pre- and mid-pandemic. The high-risk grou

While studies have examined psychosocial correlates of emotional eating, evidence remains limited in Thailand. This study aimed to investigate the association between psychosocial factors and emotional eating among Thai nurses. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 168 nurses working across Thailand between January and May 2025. Data were collected using validated instruments, including the Jenkins Sleep Questionnaire, Copenhagen Burnout Inventory

Inflammatory indices are associated with non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents with major depressive disorder.

BACKGROUND: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and C-reactive protein (CRP)-albumin ratio (CAR) constitute peripheral inflammatory indices. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between these inflammatory indices and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behavior in adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD). METHODS: Adolescents diagnosed with MDD were enrolled in this study. All participants underwent psychological and biochemical assessments and were classified into two groups based on the presence or absence

Identifying prenatal risk factors of postpartum depression with machine learning.

Postpartum depression (PPD), a common mental illness among mothers, can affect the well-being of both mothers and their children. Early intervention is essential but hindered by difficulties in identifying at-risk women, as it remains unclear how soon PPD can be predicted and which prenatal risk factors are most informative at each stage of pregnancy. We applied machine learning algorithms to (1) determine how early PPD can be predicted and (2) identify trimester-specific risk factors. The analysis leveraged data from 2865 mothers enrolled in the Brabant Study (Netherlands), including 233 psyc

Associations between Functional Disability and Chronic Conditions with Depressive Symptoms in Vietnamese-Origin Older Refugees.

Previous studies have found a strong association between activities of daily living (ADL)/instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) disability, chronic conditions, and depressive symptoms, and these associations with specific disability and diseases varied by racial/ethnic groups. However, information is unavailable on these associations, especially with the older generation of refugee populations. Authors examined the association and explored which disability and chronic diseases might be associated with depressive symptoms among 208 Vietnamese-origin older adults (≥65 years) from the Vi

Exploring the Role of Spirituality and Religiosity in Medical Education in Brazil.

Spirituality and religiosity play an important role in medical practice, helping patients cope with illness and treatment. Despite this relevance, gaps in medical education persist. This study, conducted in Brazil, evaluated the knowledge acquired during medical school and students' perceptions of the importance of spirituality in patient care and psychological well-being. This cross sectional, quantitative, exploratory study used a self-administered 19-item questionnaire developed by the researchers. A total of 300 medical students from the last two years of a six-year program participated. T

Development of the Affiliate Stigma Scale for parents of children with genetic conditions.

Affiliate stigma is an internalized form of courtesy stigma that arises from close connections with individuals who have stigmatized traits. Assessing affiliate stigma in clinical settings is crucial, as it affects the psychological well-being of those affected. However, no measurement scale is currently available to assess affiliate stigma related to genetic conditions. This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the Affiliate Stigma Scale utilizing data obtained from parents of children with genetic conditions. We adapted the English version of the Affiliate Stigma Scale originally dev

Prenatal Risk Factors of Autism Spectrum Disorder Compared to Congenital Visual and Hearing Loss: A Case-Control Study.

OBJECTIVES: Relations exist between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and visual and hearing loss (VL/HL). This study evaluated the prenatal risk factors specific to ASD compared to VL/HL. MATERIALS & METHODS: This case-control study recruited individuals with ASD to compare with individuals with VL/HL as controls from special schools. Parents completed a questionnaire containing questions about demographic characteristics, socioeconomic status, family history of neurological or psychological disorders, and problems during the pregnancy.
