PYY3-36 infused systemically or directly into the VTA attenuates fentanyl seeking in male rats.

More effective treatments for fentanyl use disorder are urgently needed. An emerging literature indicates that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists attenuate voluntary opioid taking and seeking in rodents. However, GLP-1R agonists produce adverse malaise-like effects that may limit patient compliance. Recently, we developed a dual agonist of GLP-1Rs and neuropeptide Y2 receptors (Y2Rs) that attenuates fentanyl taking and seeking at doses that do not produce malaise-like effects in opioid-experienced rats. Whether activating Y2Rs alone is sufficient to reduce opioid taking and see

Self-reported bio-psycho-social factors partially distinguish rotator cuff tendinopathy from other shoulder problems and explain shoulder severity: A case-control study.

OBJECTIVE: Examine how rotator cuff (RC) tendinopathy differed from other shoulder problems (OSP) by measuring a variety of self-reported bio-psycho-social factors, and establish which explain severity. METHODS: A validated online survey battery was used to collect self-reported biopsychosocial variables in an international population. Diagnostic group and severity were the dependent variables. Multiple logistic and linear regression analyses were utilised to generate explanatory models for group differences and severity after group comparison and univariate regression analysis. RESULTS: 82

Cannabinoid Modulation of Food-Cocaine Choice in Male Rhesus Monkeys.

Marijuana and other cannabinoid compounds are widely used by cocaine users. Preclinical animal studies suggest that these compounds can increase the reinforcing effects of cocaine under some schedules of cocaine self-administration and reinstatement, but not in all cases. To date, no studies have used a food-cocaine concurrent choice procedure, which allows for assessment of drug effects on response allocation, not just changes in cocaine self-administration. The goal of the present study was to examine the effects of compounds differing in their efficacy at the cannabinoid receptor (CBR) on c

Self-management intervention for head and neck cancer couples: Results of a randomized pilot trial.

BACKGROUND: Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) experience significant physical and psychological morbidity during radiotherapy (RT) that contributes to treatment interruptions and a poor quality of life. Although spouses/partners can help by encouraging patient self-management (eg, self-care) during RT, they often experience high psychological distress rates, lack basic health care knowledge and skills, and report increased marital conflict regarding patient self-management. The current pilot study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a 6-session telephone-based intervention cal

Successful use of biosorb osteofixation devices in 165 cranial and maxillofacial cases: a multicenter report.

Bioabsorbable osteofixation devices were developed to avoid problems associated with metals. Bioabsorbable devices are mostly made of the polymers polylactide, polyglycolide, and their copolymers [polyglycolide-co-polylactide and P(L/DL)LA]. Using the technique of self-reinforcement of bioabsorbable materials, it is possible to manufacture osteofixation devices with ultra high strength. Self-reinforced polyglycolide-co-polylactide 80/20 was selected to make devices (Biosorb PDX) for this study because of its favorable degradation characteristics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effic

Peer support for social care in prison: development of guidance and a logic model informed by mixed studies review and co-development workshops.

Prison peer support schemes can offer social care for people who require help with activities such as self-care, fetching meals, getting around safely, taking part in meaningful activities, and/or forming or maintaining relationships. Little is known about how best to deliver and monitor prison peer support schemes. Peer supporters do not always receive appropriate training or supervision, leaving them and the support recipient vulnerable to exploitation and/or distress or harm. We conducted a mixed studies review to co-develop guidance on peer support schemes for social care in prison and dev
