OBJECTIVES: Our experience with a modification of the pubovaginal fascial sling technique for the treatment of complicated stress urinary incontinence is reviewed.
METHODS: 20 women with complicated stress urinary incontinence underwent suspended pubovaginal fascial sling procedure, with which the sling tension is balanced by combining it with No. 1 Prolene suspension sutures placed at the bladder neck.
RESULTS: With a mean follow-up period of 30.7 months, 18/20 patients (90%) were cured of stress incontinence and 2 (10%) were improved. Postoperative complications were minimal, and the voidi

PURPOSE: We examined the relationship between historical factors in women with urinary stress incontinence and the Valsalva leak point pressure.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Valsalva leak point pressure measurements in 57 women with urinary stress incontinence were compared to findings in the history.
RESULTS: Valsalva leak point pressure was low in 83% of women with severe leakage and previous surgery. Interestingly, 47% of patients without predisposing factors had low Valsalva leak point pressures.

OBJECTIVES: An experimental model of Chlamydia trachomatis salpingitis was developed in mice to study the effect of combination antibiotic and antiinflammatory therapy on restoring fertility after tubal infection.
METHODS: The mice were infected by injection via the ovarian bursa with a suspension containing a human strain of Chlamydia trachomatis sevar F. After treatment with antibiotics alone or in combination with antiinflammatory agents, fertility was studied at 4 months.

Hygienic status of the teeth was assessed after Fyodorov-Volodkina and Green-Vermillion in 500 patients aged 26 to 68 consulted for caries, chronic and acute periodontitis. A girl who had been treated, apparently successfully, with surgery and chemotherapy for a hepatoblastoma, fell ill two years later with what was diagnosed as an AMF M(4). A cell line was established from her peripheral blood. This cell line had epithelial morphology and grew both in suspension culture and as a monolayer. Ciguatoxin (CTX) (0.1 pM to 10 nM) added to a suspension of Torpedo synaptosomes incubated in Ca(2+)-free medium caused no detectable acetylcholine (ACh) release. Pelvic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is limited by lack of an effective bowel contrast agent. This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of rectally administered barium sulfate as a contrast agent in pelvic MR imaging. Thirty-two patients were studied retrospectively to evaluate anatomic definition of the rectosigmoid colon. A commercially available barium sulfate suspension was administered rectally in 19 patients. Thirteen patients were imaged without barium. The impact of a gaseous ozone-oxygen mixture (OOM) on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MBT) and opportunistic microorganisms was studied. It was demonstrated that on 15- and 30-min exposure, OOM caused a significant decrease in the number of colonies of the grown microorganisms as compared with the control. In an attempt to produce experimental tuberculoid leprosy, three nine-banded armadillos, two with borderline tuberculoid lepromin reaction, and one with tuberculoid lepromin reaction, were chosen. We determined the primary structure of a tobacco beta-1,3-glucanase gene. The beta-1,3-glucanase gene has a single large intron, and the intron separates coding regions of the signal peptide and the mature enzyme. Analysis of the 5'-flanking region sequence revealed an 11 bp GC-rich element with perfect homology to the putative regulatory sequence of tobacco chitinase genes.
