In years of 1984-1992 isthmic and cornual anastomosis oviducts due to their non-patency were performed in 138 woman at the Clinic of Gynaecology--OGI-PMA in Szczecin. Of the mentioned numbered of women the study covered 45 patients having been operating on, during the period from 1.07.1984 to 31.12.1992 and those full data could be collected only for the time-span of one year that followed the operation. The goal of this study was to compare laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) with total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH). We performed a prospective comparison of the hospital courses of 30 women, 15 undergoing LAVH and 15 undergoing TAH, in a teaching hospital setting. A group of 193 patients treated for mechanical occlusion of the small intestine in the years 1978-1987 at the hospital in Jasło were analysed. A prospective randomized study was conducted on 100 patients operated upon for oesophageal diseases to evaluate the usefulness of fibrin glue in reinforcing oesophageal anastomoses. The anastomoses were located in the neck, the chest or the lower mediastinum. The operative mortality rate, the number and severity of fistulae and the incidence of anastomotic stenosis were studied. This series was insufficient to demonstrate that fibrin glue was effective in this type of surgery.

The results of a randomized prospective trial investigating the morbidity from intranasal splints in 105 patients, were analysed. Intranasal splints are associated with considerable morbidity (significantly greater post-operative pain and a higher incidence of septal perforation and vestibulitis) and although they significantly reduce the likelihood of developing intranasal adhesions, a similar benefit can be obtained by careful nasal toilet at one week.

Ureteric and bladder vaginal fistulas are recognized complications of gynaecologic surgery. We report on 4 cases of fistulas (2 uretero-vaginal and 2 vesico-vaginal) successfully treated by urinary drainage associated with plugging of fistula with fibrin sealant. Efficiency of conservative treatments is directly related to early application. Mechanical and biological properties of fibrin sealant explain its possible role in recovery, without increasing risk of viral transmission.

Postoperative intussusception in children is a rare but well recognized phenomenon. The diagnosis is often delayed due to the protean manifestations of the disorder (ileus, distention, and nausea and vomiting) which, when encountered shortly after an abdominal operation, usually result in a low index of suspicion because they are common after laparotomy. Two types of oestrogen-medicated intrauterine devices (IUD) were studied in ovariectomized rhesus monkeys. 18 patients presenting a circumscribed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF-) leak in the region of the ethmoidal roof, the olfactory cleft or the sphenoidal sinus, were operated on via the endonasal route.
