BACKGROUND: Early glottic carcinomas can be treated with radiotherapy or surgery with similar local control rates but with better functional results with radiotherapy. The aim of this study was to analyze the results of our experience of exclusive radiotherapy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1975 to 2001, 155 patients with Tis, T1 and T2 glottic carcinomas were treated with exclusive radiotherapy. Prognostic factors of survival, local control and larynx-preservation rates were analyzed in uni and multivariate analyses.

At 18 months after surgery and post-operative radiotherapy, the function of the ipsilateral shoulder joint was assessed both subjectively and objectively in 141 patients with early stage breast cancer. The fetal liver chimera system was used as a model to study the nature of transplantation tolerance in radiation chimeras. A permanent state of tolerance was induced in (C3H/eb times C57BL/6)F1 irradiated mice after reconstitution with parental C57BL/6 fetal or neonatal liver cells. Invasive thymomas comprise 0.1%-0.2% of all malignancies in India. This report is an audit of 11 cases (10 males and 1 female) at a mean age of 36.6 years (range 25-52 years) of invasive thymoma accrued over an eight year period treated by combined modality treatment. A retrospective study was undertaken in 1990 of 188 patients with the diagnosis of non small cell carcinoma of the lung referred to the Department of Radiation Oncology in 1984. Most patients (178/188) received a course of radiotherapy. This was definitive in 23, palliative in 148 (primary site in 113, metastases in 16, primary plus metastases in 19) and postoperative in 7. PURPOSE: The aim of this explorative study was to evaluate the impact of selenium in the treatment of lymphedema after radiotherapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between June 1996 and June 2001, 12 patients with edema of the arm and 36 patients with edema of the head-and-neck region were treated with selenium for therapy-related lymphedema. Twenty-two cases of early squamous cell carcinoma of the arytenoid cartilage staged as T1 according to the 1983 American Joint Committee for Cancer Staging Classification system were reviewed.
