The objective of this study was to characterize morphological and biochemistry action of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on induced arthritis in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of rats. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into groups with 12 animals each: (AG) group with arthritis induced in the left TMJ and (LG) group with arthritis induced in the left TMJ and treated with LLLT (830 nm, 30 mW, 3 J/cm(2)). The crocodile monitor is an arboreal predator, and its ocular adnexa remain poorly characterized. This study provides the first detailed histochemical characterization of the ocular adnexa in this species, including the upper and lower eyelids, the nictitating membrane, the Harderian gland, and the lacrimal gland, based on two adult individuals. Because the available material was limited, the findings should be interpreted as descriptive baseline observations. Histological slides were analyzed using microanatomical assessment, histochemistry, and Picrosirius Red staining under polarized light.

BACKGROUND: Hereditary gelsolin amyloidosis (AGel amyloidosis) is a rare autosomal dominant systemic amyloidosis caused by mutations in the Gelsolin (GSN) gene encoding gelsolin.
