UNLABELLED: Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor (AOT) is a benign tumor of rare recurrence, most prevalent in females and anterior region of the maxilla. We report an atypical occurrence of follicular AOT in the anterior mandibular region in male patient and its surgical approach. Twenty-six years-old male presented swelling in the right anterior mandibular region. Radiography showed a radiolucent well-circumscribed lesion, associated with unerupted tooth right permanent mandibular canine. Incisional biopsy and installation of decompressive device were performed. First histopathological diagnosis wa

PURPOSE: This report aims to present an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating a case of Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), an inborn error of immunity, resulting in successive complications following a third molar extraction procedure.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient, a 37-year-old Caucasian female, sought a specialist for the extraction of an impacted lower third molar associated with dentigerous cyst. Due to the possibility of mandibular fracture, a bone fixation system was used in the region. However, she experienced recurrent infections following the procedure despite

This is a retrospective study of biopsied oral lesions (N = 534) in a pediatric population (0-15 years old) in southern Taiwan. In this study, we included 6% of the 9672 biopsies performed from 1985 through 1996. The lesions were divided into three groups according to patients' ages, 0-5 years old; 6-10 years old; and 11-15 years old The majority of the samples were from the oldest age group (273/518). With the exclusion of normal tissues (N = 26), 518 samples were classified into four categories: inflammatory lesions, cystic lesions, tumor or tumor-like lesions, and other lesions. The largest

Non odontogenic epithelial cyst, again called fissurary cyst, are dysembryophasic cyst of maxillary, they are born throughout the sutures line of faces. Their diagnosis is raising again association of clinic symptom, especially complementary examination and in particular dental vitality test. Their treatment is surgical. Around 14 cysts fissurary have been recorded in a seven-year period.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the endoscopic approach for management of large jaw cysts and assess the feasibility of endoscopic enucleation as well as analyze its outcome on a wide scale at Mansoura University Hospital MUH.
METHODS: This prospective cohort study was done on 23 consecutive cases presenting with different types of large jaw cysts in the period from January 2013 to July 2016 at ENT Department, Mansoura University Hospital. All patients, (16 maxillary & 7 mandibular) cysts, were managed endoscopically. Follow up ranged from 6 to 48 months.
RESULTS: All patients showed complete resolut

Odontomas are considered hamartomatous lesions and are one of the two most common odontogenic tumors of the jaw. Odontomas are classified as compound or complex. Recently, ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) and ameloblastic fibro-dentinoma were reclassified as developing odontomas. Though clinically odontomas are usually asymptomatic, they have adverse effects on adjacent teeth such as tooth impaction, delayed eruption, displacement of teeth, over-retention of teeth, and can give rise to odontogenic cysts within the jaw. We sought to evaluate the clinicoradiopathologic presentations of odontoma

Fifty seven patients with histologically proven cyst-like lesions of the mandible are reviewed. The importance of combining radiographic with scintigraphic imaging is stressed. These two imaging modalities are complementary in demonstrating both the biological activity and the extent of the lesion. In osteomyelitis the bone scan, which is more sensitive than the radiograph, is also the method of choice in assessing the result of treatment.

Dens evaginatus is a disturbance in tooth development that produces a tubercle of hard tissue on the surface of the tooth. While prophylactic pulp capping is recommended for vital teeth, teeth with necrotic pulps require endodontic therapy or extraction. This rare case of a 24-yr-old Indian male with affected maxillary central incisors demonstrates the clinical consequences of dens evaginatus.

INTRODUCTION: In the WHO classification of odontogenic tumours, hard tissue formation has been considered as a sub-classification however, this parameter has not been much explored in dental follicle in literature. Epithelial-mesenchymal interactions play an important role in odontogenesis and its associated pathologies; therefore research on dental follicle should also include mesenchymal components along with epithelial components. Additionally, special stains to identify the nature of such depositions in dental follicle have been less explored. Modified Gallego's stain is such an example wh

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of a 3D-printed model with simulated oral changes on the teaching of radiographic evaluation.
METHOD: A model of an adult patient with several simulated alterations was designed, including impacted teeth, dentigerous cyst, mesiodens, coronal fractures, periodontal resorptions, periapical lesions, and exostoses. The radiographic images obtained were evaluated by postgraduate students using a questionnaire. The data obtained were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics.
RESULTS: The 3D model produced satisfactory images f

A Rushton's hyaline body (HB) is a concretion occasionally found in odontogenic cysts. Unspecified substances produced by the lining epithelium or derived from blood components have been suggested as possible causes of HB formation, but the origin of HBs is still elusive. This study aimed to clarify the origin of HBs. Ten specimens with HBs were obtained from 400 odontogenic cysts. HBs were stained by orcein and Congo red. Immunohistochemical examination revealed that HBs were positive for hair keratin and keratin 17. Hair keratin was concentrated in HBs, and cells with hair keratin expression

Ectopic teeth are an eruption disorder in which teeth are located in anatomical structures where, physiologically, they should not occur. An ectopic tooth is a very rare phenomenon, affecting approximately 0.5% of the canine population, and few descriptions of the treatment of such teeth in dogs can be found in the available literature. This article describes the diagnostic and therapeutic handling of cavities following extraction of ectopic teeth in nine dogs. The cases are subdivided into uncomplicated (when the ectopic tooth was encapsulated in the surrounding connective tissue, without lys

Objective. To associate radiographic and histopathological features of pericoronal follicles (PFs) of asymptomatic impacted teeth and evaluate cell proliferation and apoptosis in the epithelium. Study Design. Epithelium and mesenchyme of radiographically normal (NPF ≤ 2.5 mm) and hyperplastic (HPF 2.6 to 5 mm) PF (n = 140) were studied histologically. Cell proliferation (PI) and epithelial apoptosis were evaluated by Ki-67 and bcl-2 expression in 14 NPFs and 10 dentigerous cysts (DCs). Results. Radiographically, 127 were NPFs and 13 were HPFs; 87.8% of total PFs exhibited epithelium on the sur

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the morbidity and outcomes associated with large cysts that developed in conjunction with pulpotomized deciduous molars.
STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective study was based on the files of 18 patients who were referred to 2 oral surgery departments during a 10-year period (1986-1996). The inclusion criteria were large cyst lesions (>1 cm in diameter) and complete documentation. Data regarding symptoms at presentation, histologic and radiologic features, treatment modalities, morbidity, and outcomes were analyzed.
RESULTS: An equal gender distri

Introduction Decompression is an effective conservative treatment for large odontogenic cysts; however, conventional tube stabilization often encounters issues such as device dislodgement or mucosal trauma. This study aimed to analyze the therapeutic efficacy and clinical outcomes of a novel decompression tube fixation method secured directly to adjacent teeth using stainless steel wire. Materials and methods We retrospectively reviewed 20 patients (11 males, 9 females; mean age: 41.5 years) with jaw cysts treated between 2013 and 2023. Quantification of cyst dimensions and two-dimensional (2D
