Doble Aligner Nasoalveolar Molding: A New Approach of Digital Protocol for Cleft Lip and Palate in Newborn Patients.

AIM AND BACKGROUND: In Spain, a new digital workflow protocol has been developed for patients with cleft lip and palate. This protocol involves several steps, including the creation of a double aligner tray for nasoalveolar molding (2A-NAM) and the utilization of digital intraoral scans for the movement design. The sequential process includes: intraoral scanning (IOS), virtual design (VD), digital impression (DI), 2A-NAM preparation, and analysis of anatomical changes. This process is repeated until the desired outcomes are achieved. CASE DESCRIPTION: At just 7 days of age, records of the mal

Knowledge, Perception and Awareness of Clear Aligner Treatment among General Dentists of Saudi Arabia: A Cross-sectional Study.

AIM AND BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, perception, and awareness of general dentist of Saudi Arabia in respect to clear aligner treatment (CAT). METHODS: A cross-sectional study in which a 15-question-based questionnaire was sent to 428 general dental practitioners (GDP) across the region of Saudi Arabia via Google Forms. Five questions each were comprehensively designed to evaluate the knowledge, perception, and awareness of the participants. They were asked to fill the questionnaire and send back the form within 30 days. The data were recorded and statistic

Three-dimensional analysis of posttreatment tooth movements despite bonded retainers: part I-upper jaw.

PURPOSE: Adverse side effects of fixed retainers in terms of unwanted tooth movements have been described for both the upper and lower jaw, but data about the extent and movement patterns for the maxilla are scarce. The purpose of the present retrospective case-control study was to analyze the amount and direction of unwanted tooth movements despite upper bonded retainers as well as to analyze possible predisposing pretreatment- and treatment-related factors. METHODS: Plaster casts of 1026 patients who completed orthodontic treatment and a subsequent retention phase of 2 years were screened f

Biomechanical analysis of retracting maxillary incisors using clear aligners with palatal mini-implants in extraction cases: a finite-element analysis.

BACKGROUND: At present, the clinical orthodontic effects associated with the application of clear aligners to extraction cases featuring retraction of the anterior teeth remain a cause for concern. In the present study, the biomechanical effects of this strategy on the maxillary dentition, periodontal ligament, and clear aligners were analysed when palatal micro-implants were used in combination with different traction methods. METHODS: Several models, including the maxillary dentition (without first premolars), maxilla, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), and aligners, were constructed and importe

Microscopic evaluation of induced tooth movement after subluxation trauma: an experimental study in rats.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess the histological alterations that occurred in the periodontal area of rat molars submitted to induced tooth movement (ITM) right after an intentional trauma (subluxation). METHODS: Forty adult male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus) were selected. The animals were divided into eight groups (n=5), according to the combination of variables: Group 1--control (neither trauma nor ITM); Group 2--ITM; Groups 3, 4, 5 and 6--dentoalveolar trauma groups corresponding, respectively, to 1, 3, 8 and 10 days after trauma; Groups 7 and 8 - the animal

Effect of cyclosporine-A on orthodontic tooth movement in rats.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to examine the effect of cyclosporine-A (CsA) on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement in rats. SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION: This is a randomized controlled trial with a split-mouth design in Sprague-Dawley rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighteen rats, divided at random in two groups, were fed with 8 mg/kg CsA (experiment) or mineral oil (control) daily after initial healing of bilateral maxillary second molar removal. All rats received orthodontic coil springs (10 cN) secured to the maxillary incisors and first molars at the rights side, while no sp

Force magnitude and duration effects on amount of tooth movement and root resorption in the rat molar.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that there is no difference in the effect of different continuous moderate to very heavy forces on root resorption or amount of tooth movement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the study, 10, 25, 50 and 100 g mesial force were applied to the maxillary first molars of rat using nickel titanium closed-coil springs for 3 days, 14 days, and 28 days. The molars were extracted and the surface areas of the root resorption craters were measured using scanning electron microscope. The depths of the root resorption craters were measured using a three-dimensional laser scannin

Tissue response during Piezocision-assisted tooth movement: a histological study in rats.

OBJECTIVES: Piezocision is a novel, minimally invasive technique combining micro-incisions and decortications made by a piezotome in order to enhance the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. The combined technique allows simultaneous hard and/or soft tissue grafting via selective tunnelling to correct gingival recessions or bone deficiencies. The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of Piezocision on bone with or without tooth movement on a rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-four Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: no treatment (n = 3), TM (tooth movement alo

[Effects of Morinda officinalis polysaccharides on FN and FN-EDA of periodontal ligament fibroblasts in inflammatory microenvironment].

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of Morinda officinalis polysaccharides(MOP) on the expression of fibronectin(FN) and fibronectin containing extra domain A(FN-EDA) in inflammatory periodontal ligament fibroblasts. METHODS: Thirty six rats were randomly divided into a control group(n=12) and a model group (n=24). The model group used orthodontic wire ligation to establish periodontitis. After three weeks, 6 rats from each group were selected and confirmed by Micro-CT to complete the modeling. The remaining rats in the model group were randomly divided into periodontitis group, normal saline(

[Three-dimensional analysis of the early correction of anterior crossbite using eruption guidance appliance].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of eruption guidance appliance in the treatment of anterior cross bite in mixed-dentition children. METHODS: In the study,10 mixed-dentition children with anterior cross bite, totally 12 incisors, were selected. Alginate was used to take upper and lower dentition impression and make a hard plaster model, which served as the eruption guidance appliance for treatment. The pre- and post-operative dental casts were digitized with SmartOptics Activity 880 scanner, and the three-dimensional overlapping models were obtained by reverse engineering software,

Preapplication of orthodontic forces to the donor teeth affects periodontal healing of transplanted teeth.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate how the preapplication of orthodontic forces to the donor teeth affects the periodontal healing after transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The orthodontic force (1.5 cN) was applied to the maxillary right molars of 6-week-old male Spraque-Dawley rats (n = 21) in the experimental side, and the left side of the same animals was used as the control. After 7 days, both right and left maxillary second molars were extracted or replanted. Can vacuum-formed retainers maintain arch dimensions and alignment compared to Hawley and fixed bonded retainers after treatment with fixed appliances? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Different types of retention appliances have been proposed over the years, but their effectiveness in maintaining arch dimensions and alignment after orthodontic treatment is still unclear. AIM: To assess the efficacy of vacuum-formed retainers (VFRs) in preserving arch widths, arch length, and anterior alignment in maxillary and mandibular arches, compared to removable Hawley retainers (HRs) or fixed bonded retainers (FBRs). Search methods: unrestricted literature search of five major databases up to March 2024. SELECTION CRITERIA: randomized/non-randomized clinical studies comp
