Miscibility of nifedipine and hydrophilic polymers as measured by (1)H-NMR spin-lattice relaxation.

The miscibility of a drug with excipients in solid dispersions is considered to be one of the most important factors for preparation of stable amorphous solid dispersions. The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the feasibility of (1)H-NMR spin-lattice relaxation measurements to assess the miscibility of a drug with excipients. Solid dispersions of nifedipine with the hydrophilic polymers poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and alpha,beta-poly(N-5-hydroxypentyl)-L-aspartamide (PHPA) with various weight ratios were prepared by spray drying, and the spin-l

Investigating the effect of leucine and dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine on aerosolization properties of high-dose dry powder inhaler formulations of itraconazole nanoparticles.

This study aims to develop a high-dose dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation of itraconazole (ITZ) nanoparticles with leucine and/or dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) as excipients to increase drug solubility and aerosolization performance. To do this, we co-spray-dried leucine and DPPC with an optimized ITZ nanosuspension and measured the physical properties, dissolution and aerosolization characteristics of the formulations. Among the formulations, those containing 50% (w/wITZ) leucine (N3) or 30% (w/wITZ) leucine with 20% (w/wITZ) DPPC (N5), which had the highest FPF (68.88 ± 1.90% for N

Development of an aerosol model of Cryptococcus reveals humidity as an important factor affecting the viability of Cryptococcus during aerosolization.

Cryptococcus is an emerging global health threat that is annually responsible for over 1,000,000 infections and one third of all AIDS patient deaths. There is an ongoing outbreak of cryptococcosis in the western United States and Canada. Cryptococcosis is a disease resulting from the inhalation of the infectious propagules from the environment. The current and most frequently used animal infection models initiate infection via liquid suspension through intranasal instillation or intravenous injection. These models do not replicate the typically dry nature of aerosol exposure and may hinder our

Snails as indicators of pesticide drift, deposit, transfer and effects in the vineyard.

This paper presents a field-study of real pesticide application conditions in a vineyard. The objective was to measure the exposure, the transfer and the effects of pesticides on a non-target soil invertebrate, the land snail Helix aspersa. There was no drift of the herbicides (glyphosate and glufosinate) whereas the fungicides (cymoxanil, folpet, tebuconazole and pyraclostrobin) were detected up to 20 m from the treated area. For folpet and particularly tebuconazole, spray deposits on soil (corresponding to losses for the intended target i.e. the vine leaves) were high (41.1% and 88.8% loss o

Evaluation of safety and quality impact of extractable and leachable substances in therapeutic biologic protein products: a risk-based perspective.

Leachables are chemical entities that migrate spontaneously from the final container closure system, packaging components and/or processing equipment under recommended conditions of product use and storage. Unlike leachables, extractables are generated under exaggerated temperature and time conditions in the presence of an appropriate solvent. Increasing evidence suggests that leachables may pose a safety risk by causing toxicity, carcinogenicity, immunogenicity and/or endocrine dysregulation. These substances may also alter product physico-chemical properties via interaction with the active p

Human population movement and behavioural patterns in malaria hotspots on the Thai-Myanmar border: implications for malaria elimination.

BACKGROUND: Malaria is heterogeneously distributed across landscapes. Human population movement (HPM) could link sub-regions with varying levels of transmission, leading to the persistence of disease even in very low transmission settings. Malaria along the Thai-Myanmar border has been decreasing, but remains heterogeneous. This study aimed to measure HPM, associated predictors of travel, and HPM correlates of self-reported malaria among people living within malaria hotspots. METHODS: 526 individuals from 279 households in two malaria hotspot areas were included in a prospective observational

Pulmonary immunization: deposition site is of minor relevance for influenza vaccination but deep lung deposition is crucial for hepatitis B vaccination.

Vaccination via the pulmonary route could be an attractive alternative to parenteral administration. Research towards the best site of antigen deposition within the lungs to induce optimal immune responses has conflicting results which might be dependent on the type of vaccine and/or its physical state. Therefore, in this study, we explored whether deep lung deposition is crucial for two different vaccines, i.e., influenza and hepatitis B vaccine. In view of this, influenza subunit vaccine and hepatitis B surface antigen were labeled with a fluorescent dye and then spray-dried. Imaging data sh

Presence of aromatic-rich organic matter and its characterization in grout materials: Implications for radionuclide immobilization.

Grout materials are commonly used to immobilize low-level radioactive waste. Organic moieties can be unintentionally present in common ingredients used to make these grout waste forms, which may result in the formation of organo-radionuclide species. These species can positively or negatively affect the immobilization efficiency. However, the presence of organic carbon compounds is rarely considered in models or characterized chemically. Here, we quantify the organic pool of grout formulations with and without slag, as well as the individual dry ingredients used to make the grout samples (ordi

Interactive effects of ETc-based drip irrigation scheduling and phytohormones on root architecture, physiological traits and yield of wheat.

Wheat productivity is increasingly threatened by inefficient irrigation practices and declining groundwater resources. Therefore, the identification of efficient irrigation strategies is essential to enhance water productivity without compromising crop yield. A two-year field experiment was conducted using a split-plot design with three replications. The main plot treatments consisted of three crop evapotranspiration (ETc)-based drip irrigation scheduling levels, namely 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 ETc. The sub-plot treatments included foliar application of salicylic acid (SA), gibberellic acid (GA), and

Vapor-Phase Zinc Modification for Paper Artifacts: From Surface-Enriched Shells to Subsurface Interactions.

Paper artifacts are irreplaceable carriers of human history and culture, yet they are inherently vulnerable to degradation through acidification, hydrolysis, and oxidation. Conventional conservation approaches, such as immersion and spraying, introduce liquid media and additives that can disturb fiber microstructure and alter appearance. Here we report a dry, depth-programable vapor-phase molecular infiltration strategy for paper-based cultural heritage conservation. Using diethylzinc as a precursor, we achieve either surface-confined or depth-controlled zinc incorporation within cellulose fib

Compatibility and Synergistic Effects of Plant Biostimulants and Commercial Entomopathogenic Fungi for Diaphorina citri Pathogenicity.

The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), Diaphorina citri, is the primary vector of Huanglongbing, a devastating disease threatening global citrus production. While chemical insecticides dominate control strategies, environmental and resistance concerns necessitate sustainable alternatives like Integrated Pest Management. This study evaluated the efficacy of commercial entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) formulations (Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Cordyceps javanica) alone or combined with plant biostimulants (PBS; silicon dioxide and chitosan) across six greenhouse bioassays. In Vitro-In Vivo Correlation Of Amorphous Solid Dispersion Enabled Itraconazole Tablets.

PURPOSE: There are scarce reports on in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) model development of immediate-release (IR) formulations, and few investigations of the impacts of formulation and process of spray-dried solid dispersions (SDD)-based tablets on human pharmacokinetics (PK), despite commercial product successes. The goal of this study was to investigate the formulation and process factors that impact bioavailability enhancement of IR itraconazole SDD tablets; and to develop an FDA level A IVIVC that would predict in vivo PK performance from in vitro dissolution testing.
