The sensitivity of developing rodents to toxic metals differs considerably from that of adults. In the present study, we investigated the in vivo and in vitro effects of inorganic mercury and lead on delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALA-D) from brain, liver, kidney and blood of young rats. Eight day-old rats were injected with one or five doses of lead acetate (0, 3.5, or 7.0 mg/kg) or HgCl2 (0, 2.5, or 5.0 mg/kg). Mercury is one of the detrimental toxicants that can be found in the environment and exists naturally in different forms; inorganic and organic. Human exposure to inorganic mercury, such as mercury chloride, occurs through air pollution, absorption of food or water, and personal care products. This study aimed to investigate the effect of HgCl2 on cell viability, cell cycle, apoptotic pathway, and alters of the transcriptome profiles in human non-small cell lung cancer cells, H1299. Our data show that HgCl2 treatment causes inhibition of cell growth via cell cycle arrest at G0/G1- and S-phase.

Brown-Norway (BN) rats injected with HgCl2 have been previously shown to develop a variety of autoimmune abnormalities. The susceptibility of BN rats is genetically controlled, and Lewis rats bearing a different RT1 haplotype are resistant. It will be shown in the present study that the number of MRC OX-8+ (suppressor/cytotoxic) cells increases in the spleen and lymph nodes of Lewis rats injected with HgCl2. Mercury(II) is a highly toxic environmental pollutant leading to oxidative stress in animals and human beings. In this study we aimed to investigate the possible protective effect of a water-soluble polysaccharide (AEP-w1) from the root bark of Aralia elata against experimental mercury(II)-induced cardiovascular oxidative injury in rat model. The results showed that delayed AEP-w1 supplement to HgCl2-treated mice not only decreased serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels, but also increased serum nitric oxide (NO) metabolite levels and antioxidant capacity.

Putative allergens in, clinical manifestations of, and patch tests with traditional Chinese medicinal materials (CMM) causing contact dermatitis (CD) were studied. 14 patients with CMM CD and 351 controls were patch tested with the standard series of allergens of Beijing Medical University and the suspected drug, as is.
