BACKGROUND: The gold standard treatment for amblyopia is patching the better eye. Improvement of visual acuity in the amblyopic eye is significantly impacted by the adherence to the patching therapy. It is known that the overall adherence is rather low.
OBJECTIVE: This retrospective study evaluated whether an updated version of attention-binding digital therapeutic games based on the principle of focal ambient visual acuity stimulation (FAVAS) would result in improved patient adherence in 4- to 16-year-old patients with amblyopia associated with anisometropia or strabismus.
METHODS: We analy

PURPOSE: To survey paediatric eye care providers to identify current patterns of prescribing for hyperopia.
METHODS: Paediatric eye care providers were invited, via email, to participate in a survey to evaluate current age-based refractive error prescribing practices. Questions were designed to determine which factors may influence the survey participant's prescribing pattern (e.g., patient's age, magnitude of hyperopia, patient's symptoms, heterophoria and stereopsis) and if the providers were to prescribe, how much hyperopic correction would they prescribe (e.g., full or partial prescriptio

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Impaired stereoacuity is seen in some children without amblyopia, strabismus, and clinically significant refractive errors. Therefore, there are probably other factors affecting stereoacuity.
BACKGROUND: The aim of this work was to investigate the longitudinal changes of local stereoacuity and associated factors in schoolchildren.
METHODS: The present report is a part of the Shahroud Schoolchildren Eye Cohort Study. The target population was children aged 6 to 12 years in Shahroud, Iran. The second phase of the study was conducted in 2018 by re-inviting all participants i

INTRODUCTION: Stereopsis, the highest grade of binocular single vision, is affected by various factors, such as mis-alignment of visual axes, refractive errors especially anisometropia and astigmatism, both of which may result in amblyopia. There are very few studies in literature regarding the relationship between stereoacuity and refractive errors, especially astigmatism.
AIM: The present study was conducted to determine the correlation between stereoacuity and experimentally induced graded astigmatism in emmetropes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A randomized study was conducted on 2000 individua

BACKGROUND: Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) with thin corpus callosum (CC) is a rare neurodegenerative disorder classified as a complicated form of spastic paraplegia. Some patients with HSP with thin CC have previously been described in Japanese families, and the genetic locus was linked to chromosome 15q13-15.
OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to further clinically and genetically characterize HSP with thin CC.
PATIENTS: We describe the clinical, structural, and functional follow-up and the genetic characterization of 2 sisters aged 26 and 31 years who had severe spastic paraplegia and cogn

Amblyopia, sometimes called "lazy eye," is a relatively common developmental visual disorder well characterized behaviorally; however, the neural substrates associated with amblyopia in humans remain unclear. We hypothesized that abnormalities in the cerebral cortex of subjects with amblyopia exist, possibly as a result of experience-dependent neuronal plasticity. Anatomic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and psychophysical vision testing was carried out on 74 subjects divided into two age ranges, 7-12 years and 18-35 years, and three diagnoses, strabismic amblyopia, anisometropic amblyopia, a

Fifty preterm neonates were followed up at the age of 6 months and 1 year. In addition to developmental assessment, a complete ophthalmological examination was done on both visits. The largest (62%) gestational age group was of 34-36 weeks. At 6 months, none of the infants had normal vision. At 1 year of age, 64% of the babies had normal vision while incidence of myopia and hypermetropia was 16% and 20%, respectively. There was an inverse relationship noted between gestation and incidence of refractive errors. It was also noted that with decreasing weight, the incidence of myopia increased. My
