The effect of cyamemazine a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist on voluntary ethanol consumption in rats and on ethanol withdrawal in mice was examined. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were tested in a free choice (water and 10% ethanol) experiment and consumed 5 g/kg ethanol daily. Rats were treated daily IP with cyamemazine (0.5, 1, or 2 mg/kg) or acamprosate (100 mg/kg) during 2 weeks. We have utilized simple test methods to identify 19 fresh isolates obtained during a recent outbreak of chancroid in Houston and six strains of H. ducreyi from other outbreaks.
