A prospective study on the efficacy of sequential treatment of technology Lipido-Colloid Impregnated with Silver and Technology Lipido-Colloid Nano-Oligosaccharide Factor in the management of venous leg ulcers.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are associated with significant morbidity and poor quality of life (QOL). Compression therapy and wound dressing are the mainstay treatment options. Technology Lipido-Colloid Impregnated with Silver (TLC-Ag) reduces bacterial load and Technology Lipido-Colloid Nano-Oligosaccharide Factor (TLC-NOSF) reduces elevated matrix metalloproteinases and improve wound healing. However, evidence is scarce on the role of sequential therapy. This study aims to evaluate if sequential treatment with TLC-Ag and TLC-NOSF improves VLU wound healing and QOL. METHODS

Technology-enhanced compression and AI-integrated lymphedema care: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Lymphedema is a persistent and often debilitating condition resulting from lymphatic system dysfunction. It frequently develops as a secondary complication, especially after cancer treatments. Traditional management, centered on complete decongestive therapy (CDT), offers modest benefits but is limited by accessibility, long-term adherence, and variable patient response. AIMS: This narrative review explores how digital health and enhanced compression technologies are reshaping lymphedema care. METHODS: A comprehensive review of pertinent literature was conducted to assess the uti

Early versus deferred endovenous ablation of superficial venous reflux in patients with venous ulceration: the EVRA RCT.

BACKGROUND: Venous ulceration is a common and costly health-care issue worldwide, with poor healing rates greatly affecting patient quality of life. Compression bandaging has been shown to improve healing rates and reduce recurrence, but does not address the underlying cause, which is often superficial venous reflux. Surgical correction of the reflux reduces ulcer recurrence; however, the effect of early endovenous ablation of superficial venous reflux on ulcer healing is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To determine the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of compression therapy with early endo

Cost-effectiveness analysis of guideline-based optimal care for venous leg ulcers in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are expensive to treat and impair quality of life of affected individuals. Although improved healing and reduced recurrence rates have been observed following the introduction of evidence-based guidelines, a significant evidence-practice gap exists. Compression is the recommended first-line therapy for treatment of VLUs but unlike many other developed countries, the Australian health system does not subsidise compression therapy. The objective of this study is to estimate the cost-effectiveness of guideline-based care for VLUs that includes public sector re

Treatment of physiotherapy-refractory secondary upper limb lymphedema with vascularized lymph node transfer: A case report with clinical and bioimpedance analysis correlation.

With radical treatment of cancer, lymphedema of limb has become a commonly faced adverse effect. The introduction of vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) has provided a possible treatment option for this troublesome condition. In this case report, we describe a 66-year-old lady who developed upper limb lymphedema after operation and radiotherapy for the cancer of her left breast. Her lymphedema did not improve despite wearing pressure garment and receiving six months of regular decongestive physiotherapy. VLNT was performed for this patient, the pre- and post-operative limb circumference an

Compression therapy and the management of lower-limb lymphoedema: the male perspective.

Lymphoedema and chronic oedema are managed through multiple interventions forming the two key stages of lymphoedema management. In the field of lymphoedema and chronic oedema research, the male perspective has received limited attention when compared with the female equivalent. Further research is needed within the UK and globally to address the present gap. Despite this limited focus, management options available to male patients do not differ significantly from female patients, with compression therapy being the main management option. The success of compression therapy and other interventio

Cost-effectiveness of three adjunct cellular/tissue-derived products used in the management of chronic venous leg ulcers.

OBJECTIVES: Determine the cost-effectiveness of three topically applied cellular/tissue-derived products (CTPs) used as adjunct therapies to standard care in the management of venous leg ulcers (VLUs). METHODS: A three-state Markov model derived from the medical literature was developed to estimate the comparative cost-effectiveness of three CTPs in relation to VLU standard care. CTPs evaluated in the study included extracellular matrix (ECM), human skin equivalent (HSE), and living skin equivalent (LSE). The three Markov states included unhealed, healed, and death. A 1-year time horizon was

Value of MRI in diagnosing injuries after ankle sprains in children.

BACKGROUND: To our knowledge, there are only a few prospective studies on the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose injuries associated with ankle sprains in children. We hypothesized that MRI examinations of acute ankle sprains in growing children would show relevant injuries that may have been overlooked by conventional clinical, radiological, and ultrasound examinations. METHODS: Thirty children with acute inversion injury of the ankle were subjected to an MRI examination of the ankle joint, in addition to conventional radiographic procedures. All data were recorded prospecti

Upper extremity deep venous thrombosis.

Upper extremity deep venous thrombosis is a serious disease entity which, based on the pathogenesis and in view of the individual patient's prognosis, must be divided into a primary and a secondary form. Primary upper extremity deep venous thrombosis is, when related to effort, a rather benign disease with excellent prognosis quoad vitam, carrying only a minor potential of developing disabling post-thrombotic syndrome. If primary upper extremity deep venous thrombosis occurs without any obvious cause, screening for underlying malignancy is recommended. Secondary upper extremity deep venous thr
