Kissing molars (KMs) is an extremely rare condition of impacted third molars, pointed in the opposite direction in a single follicular space; it consists exactly in a full impacted of permanent molars which occurs only in the lower jaw. Actually, about less than thirty cases have been reported in scientific literatures. The aetiology and pathogenesis of this pathological double dental inclusion remain unknown; above all events that lead two molars to appear, as KMs remain mysterious. The association to metabolic connective diseases such as mucopolysaccharidosis was emphasized. KMs considered a

Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI, also known as Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, is an autosomal recessive lysosomal disorder, due to the deficiency of the enzyme arylsulfatase B that leads to the accumulation of dermatan sulfate in the tissues and its urinary excretion. Mucopolysaccharide deposition leads to a progressive disorder affecting multiple organs that often results in death at a young age. This disease has several oral manifestations, among which dental complications can be serious and include follicles similar to dentigerous cysts, malocclusions, condylar defects and gingival hyperplasia, in

It is clear that the dental profession has entered a new age of radiographic diagnostic imaging. A number of examples have shown that being able to visualize oral and maxillofacial pathologic entities in three dimensions assists in diagnosing and planning the appropriate treatment. The technology is an improvement for our profession and for the patients it serves.

The intimate position of the maxillary sinus to the apices of teeth creates problems if periapical inflammation occurs. This can lead to a perforation into the sinus and cause sinusitis. Persistent and complicated situations that do not respond after nonsurgical root canal treatment demand a suitable surgical therapy. Knowledge of the specific anatomic conditions, an adequate diagnosis, and an appropriate surgical procedure facilitate success rates that are comparable with those obtained in other regions, even in unfavorable initial conditions.

Objective: To analyze the imaging features of cone-beam CT (CBCT) of ameloblastoma (AB), odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) and dentigerous cysts (DC) associated with the mandibular impacted third molars,so as to provide useful information for differential diagnosis of these lesions. Methods: The patients who were with complete clinical data, pathological diagnosis and CBCT images from AB, OKC and DC around the mandibular impacted third molars were collected in Peking University Hospital of Stomatology from August 2016 to December 2021. A total of 109 patients (14 were diagnosed as AB, 23 were diagn

BACKGROUND: The use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for dentomaxillofacial diagnostics in pediatric dentistry is expanding and concerns have been raised about the radiation risks associated with this imaging modality, especially for children. Dentomaxillofacial paediatric imaging: an investigation towards low-dose radiation induced risks (DIMITRA) is a multidisciplinary project focused on optimizing CBCT exposure for children and adolescents. This study aims to clarify the indications behind CBCT scans in children aligned with DIMITRA's recommendations.
METHODS: For each CBCT examinat

BACKGROUND: Multiple calcifying hyperplastic dental follicles (MCHDF) is a rare disorder that is characterized by multiple impacted teeth and enlarged dental follicles that include calcifications. The current lack of information characterizing MCHDF impedes clinicians from making prompt differential diagnoses. We describe five cases of MCHDF and analyze their clinical and histopathological features in an effort to compare MCHDF with hyperplastic dental follicles (HDF) of singly impacted teeth.
METHODS: Our five cases of MCHDF were examined and clinically/histologically compared with data from

Pathologic changes related to impacted teeth are infrequent. However, considerable damage to bone and adjacent teeth may result if they do occur. Four patients are described in whom different circumstances existed with impacted teeth. Extractions are indicated when the anatomic location of the impacted teeth is most favorable and when the patient's systemic and hematologic condition is least compromising, even if the teeth are asymptomatic at that time.

PURPOSE: In the standard Caldwell-Luc operation, an inferior meatal antrostomy is performed to promote sinus drainage. However, inferior meatal antrostomy has been criticized for its additional operation time and wound, early loss of the opening, and risk of injury to the nasolacrimal duct. This study retrospectively reviewed the results of the Caldwell-Luc operation without inferior meatal antrostomy in the treatment of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis or odontogenic sinus disease.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The records of 50 patients who had an odontogenic sinus disease and underwent the Caldwell

Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIB (MPS IIIB) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme a-N-acetylglucosaminidase. Affected subjects present developmental delay, attention deficit disorder, uncontrollable hyperactivity, and aggressive behavior, followed by progressive dementia and death in late adolescence. The purpose of this paper is to report the dental findings and treatment in a child with MPS IIIB. His primary molars and permanent mandibular incisors presented obliterated pulp chambers and root canals, which may be a clinical manifestation of this disor

Acidic (FGF-1) and basic (FGF-2) fibroblast growth factors are members of a family of growth factors that function in growth, differentiation and regeneration of a variety of tissues. Their presence in human odontogenic cysts and tumors has not been previously investigated. This study was designed to detect immunohistochemically the presence of these factors and two fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR2 and FGFR3) in a cross section of odontogenic cysts and tumors, to determine if they may be involved in the differentiation of odontogenic epithelium or, more specifically, in the developmen

BACKGROUND: Stress is an integral part of life. Anxiety levels may increase when it comes to being treated surgically due to road traffic accidents causing facial trauma, other pathologies or burns. The stress that is caused during a surgical procedure as well as during the treatment in debilitated patients or traumatic conditions is bound to cause disturbance in the metabolic and physiologic levels of cortisol. Therefore, a study was carried out to determine the cortisol levels just prior to surgery on the day of operation to quantify the stress levels and also aid in any preanesthetic medica

Tooth eruption is defined as the movement of a tooth from its site of development within the alveolar process to its functional position in the oral cavity. The process of tooth eruption can be divided into different phases: pre-eruptive bone stage, alveolar bone stage, mucosal stage, preocclusal stage, occlusal stage and maturation stage. Any disturbance in these phases can lead to eruptive anomalies. The incidence of unerupted teeth is usually higher among permanent teeth than among deciduous ones. Of the primary teeth reported as unerupted, second deciduous molars are the teeth most frequen
