We report the case of a 84-year-old woman suffering from strong pain in her right leg initially resembling thrombosis of deep veins. Eight hours after admission a superficial blister developed at the calf with following hemorrhagic aspect and spontanous eruption of clear yellowish fluid. Adverse cutaneous reactions to topically applied olive oil are seldom reported, and positive patch tests to it are mostly regarded as allergic. We report a comparative study of the patch-test results obtained with a corticosteroid series, added to the standard series, in two centres, one in Belgium and the other in the Netherlands. The frequencies of positive reactions to the corticosteroids differed considerably between the two centres, and we suggest several reasons for this.

Pretibial epidermolysis bullosa is a rare form of dominant dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. In an attempt to define the role of autonomic neuropathy in the pathogenesis of diabetic foot ulcers, we have studied diabetic patients with and without ulcers, and a group of non-diabetic controls. A series of standard autonomic function tests have been compared with measurement of the Galvanic Skin Response (GSR). Allergic contact dermatitis to topical medicaments occurs often. Common medicaments associated with allergic contact dermatitis include topically applied antibiotics, antihistamines, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, anesthetics, and corticosteroids. In cases of suspected allergic contact dermatitis, medicaments that the patient is using should be included when patch testing. Body sites susceptible to allergic contact dermatitis to topical medicaments include scalp, face, anogenital area, and lower extremities.

Lichen aureus is a pigmented purpuric dermatosis that tends to occur on the lower extremities, and linear morphea is an inflammatory disease of the dermis and subcutaneous fat that leads to a scarlike induration. We present a pediatric case of linear morphea developing in the same anatomic distribution as prior lichen aureus. Due to the possible progression of lichen aureus to morphea described herein and the difficulty in diagnosing early morphea, close follow-up may be considered for pediatric patients who present with this pigmented purpuric dermatosis.
