Refractive errors in mixed breed dogs of different ages.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the occurrence and range of refractive errors in dogs of different ages. A total of 99 clinically healthy, mixed-breed mesocephalic dogs were included in the study and divided into three different age groups according to the current human/pet analogy chart: 40 adults (23 males, 17 females, 1-8 years old, 3-70 kg), 21 seniors (14 males, 7 females, 6-11 years old, 7-42 kg), and 38 geriatrics (22 males, 16 females, 8-13 years old, 5-45 kg). All the dogs underwent an ophthalmic examination, including Schirmer tear test, tonometry, biomicroscopy, and ophthal

Comparison of the iScreen and the MTI photoscreeners for the detection of amblyopia risk factors in children.

BACKGROUND: The iScreen and Medical Technology and Innovations, Inc, (MTI) photoscreeners objectively screen for amblyopia risk factors in children. The MTI photoscreener has been extensively validated as a device that objectively screens for amblyopia risk factors in children, but limited availability of the instant film it uses may soon render it obsolete. More recently the iScreen photoscreener has been introduced. This device captures images digitally and transmits them electronically to be interpreted. We compared the newer iScreen's ability to detect amblyopia risk factors in children wi

Clinical Evaluation of MyoCare in Europe (CEME): study protocol for a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, and controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Myopia prevalence has been increasing in the last decades, and its pathological consequences, including myopic maculopathy and high myopia-associated optic neuropathy, are now one of the most common causes of visual impairment. It is estimated that by 2050, more than 50% of Europeans and Americans will be myopes, which is alarming due to the high morbidity of myopes over - 6.00D. Once myopia has appeared, there are different options with scientific evidence to try to slow the axial length growth. Ophthalmic lenses are the less invasive treatment to control myopia, and there is evid
