Addition of local cryotherapy for treatment of post-mastectomy lymphedema.

Worldwide, lymphedema can present as a significant health issue. Left untreated, it can have long-term medical and psychological consequences for patients. Cryotherapy is a new physical therapy modality used for many purposes including reduction of pain, inflammation, and edema. It is thought to decrease interstitial fluid volume through many mechanisms. Therefore, it is reasonable to think that cryotherapy might have a positive effect in treatment of lymphedema. The goal of this study was to investigate how local cryotherapy in combination with standard therapy affects patient outcomes. Forty

Safety study of permanent pacemaker implantation after TAVI under multiple antithrombotic therapies.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a standard minimally invasive treatment for high-risk patients with severe aortic valve disease. However, the safety of permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) following TAVI under multiple antithrombotic regimens remains inadequately studied. METHODS: In this single-center retrospective study, 203 patients who underwent TAVI between January 2021 and May 2025 were included. Based on post-TAVI PPI status, patients were categorized into pacemaker (PM, n = 35) and non-pacemaker (NPM, n = 168) groups. Each group was further stratified by

Local Injection of Fluid Gelatin Under Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Guidance for Treating Active Bleeding From the Inferior Epigastric Artery: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Injury to the inferior epigastric artery is a major complication of abdominal puncture, and continuous active bleeding from this artery can lead to hemorrhagic shock. Several studies have reported the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to diagnose active bleeding in parenchymal organs. Fluid gelatin is a new hemostatic material that can be injected into the bleeding site by using a puncture needle under the precise guidance of CEUS, which enables the implementation of local minimally invasive and appropriate hemostatic treatment. Here, we report the case of a patient in whom

Chronic Edema Management of the Lower Extremities.

Peripheral edema is a prevalent condition affecting patients dealing with an assortment of health conditions, such as congestive heart failure (CHF), liver disease, venous insufficiency, and postoperative surgical complications. Edema can present in a variety of ways, ranging from mild localized symptoms to severely debilitating forms that impact patients' daily lives. Despite the vast number of publications addressing the underlying causes of peripheral edema, there seems to be an absence of literature that presents the effectiveness and compliance of current management techniques. Risk factors for developing upper limb cellulitis after breast cancer treatment.

Cellulitis is one of the most important troubling complications of breast cancer treatment. Therefore, elucidating the risk factors for cellulitis in patients that have undergone breast cancer treatment is crucial. This is a retrospective medical record study among 523 patients who had received breast cancer treatment and were referred to the Lymphedema Clinic. Data on age, height, weight, BMI (body mass index), education level, arm dominance, history of previous surgery, axillary lymph node dissection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were noted. The time between operation and onset of lymphede

A conceptual framework of patient-reported outcomes in people with venous leg ulcers.

Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are a common chronic often undertreated condition, which affects individual's health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Numerous patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have been validated to capture HRQoL in patients with VLUs. However, available instruments contain many items, are hard to use in clinical practice, and present with weak responsiveness. This study aims to determine clinical utility of an existing VLU-QoL instrument and to develop a comprehensive PROs assessment framework to guide clinical practice treatment in people with VLUs in Australia. Semi-struct

Behaviour of the plasma concentration of gelatinases and their tissue inhibitors in subjects with venous leg ulcers.

Venous leg ulcers are common in subjects with chronic venous insufficiency. The increased intraluminal pressure causes alteration of the skin microcirculation, leukocyte activation and release of proteolytic enzymes leading to ulceration. An impaired expression and activity of matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) might influence extracellular matrix degradation and deposition in chronic venous ulcers with the failure of the healing process. Our aim was to evaluate plasma concentration of gelatinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) and their inhibitors (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) in sub

Blood loss control with two doses of tranexamic Acid in a multimodal protocol for total knee arthroplasty.

Average blood loss after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) usually ranges from 1500 to 1900 cc, including both the postoperative drain and hidden blood loss. This represents about 46% of TKA patients requiring postoperative blood transfusion. Not only the risks of disease transmission but also those of ABO incompatibility, infection due to immunosupression, increased procedure costs, and increased length of hospital stay, are potential problems that foster blood saving strategies. In this study, 71 unilateral TKAs using a multimodal protocol to decrease blood loss were compared to 61 historical ca
