Cornoid lamellation is a specific disorder of epidermal maturation manifested by a vertical "column" of parakeratosis and is the hallmark of porokeratosis. The cornoid lamella is characterized by a ridgelike parakeratosis. We present 11 patients with solitary lesions of a distinct pattern of cornoid lamellation. The mean age at presentation clinically was 57 years; there were 9 men and 2 women. The duration of the lesions ranged from 3 months to 5 years (mean of 23 mo). Porokeratoma (acanthoma with features of porokeratosis) is a recently described entity with a distinct pattern of cornoid lamellation and clinically different from typical porokeratosis. We present a case of multiple porokeratomas on the buttock of a 78-year-old man with paraplegia secondary to poliomyelitis and ankylosing spondylarthritis. We briefly review the characteristics and controversies of this new entity.

A 10-year-old, Shih Tzu dog was presented with an enlarged, curled 2nd nail in the left forelimb. Digital amputation was performed and the mass was diagnosed as a nail bed keratoacanthoma (infundibular keratinizing acanthoma) histopathologically. There was no recurrence postoperatively. This is the first case report of a canine nail bed keratoacanthoma diagnosed by histologic and immunohistochemical examination including Ki-67 and p53 expression.

A new method was developed for detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) by loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), which was compared with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and real-time PCR for specificity and sensitivity. In human papillomavirus-associated acanthomas of the mamilla it was possible to detect DNA of HPV types 41, 6ma and a type related to type 16. The biology of HPV infection resembles that of anogenital lesions. Some of the HPV types found are rare or are thought possibly to have oncogenic potency. Possible evidence for link between HPV and carcinomas of the breast is discussed.

Oral melanoacanthosis (MA) is a rare pigmented mucosal lesion that is considered the counterpart of cutaneous melanoacanthoma. A 64-year-old man with Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS), a condition characterized by the association of multiple sebaceous tumours and kerato-acanthomas with internal malignancies, developed a carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater. This is the 2nd reported ampullary carcinoma in 205 reported cases of MTS, suggesting a higher prevalence in MTS patients than in the general population. As an ampullary carcinoma is potentially amenable to surgical resection, particularly when detected early, patients with MTS should undergo regular endoscopic surveillance of the ampulla of Vater.

Eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA) is a rare, benign adnexal tumor arising most often on the extremities of elderly individuals. It is typically a slow-growing, flesh- to reddish-colored nodule or plaque. Histologically, the tumor consists of anastomosing cords of cuboidal epithelial cells surrounded by a fibrovascular stroma containing plasma cells. We report the case of a 55-year-old male who presented with asymptomatic scrotal papules since 3-4 months. He had no comorbidities. Clinical differentials comprised genital verrucae and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (previously called bowenoid papulosis). The incidence of skin tumours according to age and sex is analysed. Sun-induced tumours occur most commonly in persons between the ages of 50 and 69 years. One half of malignant melanomas are seen at ages following the decline in incidence of junctional and compound naevi. Squamous cell carcinomas occur earlier in males. Histiocytomas are seen earlier and spider angiomas later in females. Tumours occurring predominantly in males include squamous and basal cell carcinoma, kerato-acanthoma and pyogenic granuloma. Histiocytoma and spider angioma are seen more often in females.
