The authors analyze the results of treatment of patients whose organ of vision was injured in accident. They point out a complex of measures promoting a relatively favorable optic and cosmetic outcome of injuries and discuss the shortcomings of ophthalmologic service. Various aspects of the problem are considered to develop practical recommendations on effective care of the injured patients.

Although diagnosis and treatment of acute nasal fractures are usually relatively simple, they often go undiagnosed and untreated because of frequent dependence on the reports of facial-bone X-rays taken through the emergency room. A routine method of managing displaced nasal fractures has given excellent results with almost no complications. This techiniqe, along with our approach to the managemnet of healed nasal fracture deformities, is presented. Salient statistical information regarding etiology, associated injuries, and complications included.

Drowning is the second most common cause of accidental death in children. Swimming pools and natural bodies of water close to home present the greatest risk to young children. The single most important step in the treatment of submersion accident victims is the immediate institution of resuscitative measures at the earliest possible opportunity. Ice-water submersion accidents are an important subgroup of near-drowning victims, who at times can defy predictions for outcome after profound anoxic-ischemic insults. Drowning accident prevention is an important public health measure.

This study aimed to analyze the profile of treatment for accidents and violence involving children under 10 years of age in Brazil in the year 2011. Blood alcohol was determined in 1012 injury victims. It was found that the alcohol involvement (AI) rate was 37% in the total number of patients, 19% in industrial, 38% in traffic, 36% in home, 45% in other freetime accidents, and 69% in the victims of fights, assaults, and suicide attempts. The article aims to describe the profile of elderly victims of falls and traffic accidents from the data of the Surveillance Survey of Violence and Accidents (VIVA). The VIVA Survey was conducted in the emergency health-services of the Unified Health System in the capitals of Brazil in 2011. BACKGROUND: Severe open globe injuries are frequent emergencies in an ophthalmologic clinic and required immediate operation.
