A multi-analysis of nomogram model for the identification of banded adhesions and matted adhesions in adhesive small bowel obstruction.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative diagnosis of the cause of adhesive small bowel obstruction (ASBO) is very challenging for surgeons. We aimed to develop a nomogram model for the identification of banded adhesions (BA) and matted adhesions (MA) of ASBO. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled patients with ASBO between January 2012 and December 2020, classified into BA and MA groups according to the intraoperative findings. A nomogram model was developed by using multivariable logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: A total of 199 patients were included, with 117 (58.8%) cases of BA and 82 (41.2%)

Intrauterine adhesion.

Intrauterine adhesions (IUA) occurred in the reproductive-age women are a big economic and health problem, resulting in severe impairment of social, psychological and physical function of the female genital organs. IUA-related symptoms or signs are varied greatly from free of symptoms or ambiguous symptoms (an incidental finding during the intervention) to ceased menstruation and loss of fecundability. The underlying pathophysiology is not completely understood, but intrauterine damage with broken basal layers of the endometrium formatting scar tissues or fibrosis in the endometrium with subse

[Adhesive capsulitis].

BACKGROUND: Adhesive capsulitis (CA; also called Frozen shoulder) is a common, usually unilateral disease of the shoulder joint primarily affecting middle-aged women. Primary, idiopathic, and secondary forms are distinguished. Painful active and passive movement restriction are the clinically leading symptoms. COURSE OF THE DISEASE: The disease usually progresses in three successive stages: freezing phase, frozen phase, and thawing phase. CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS AND IMAGING: CA is primarily diagnosed clinically, with imaging being used to assess or exclude differential diagnoses. Radiography as p

Intrauterine adhesions.

Joseph Asherman first described intrauterine adhesions in 1948. It is commonly referred to as Asherman's syndrome and intrauterine synechiae. It is characterized by a spectrum ranging from amenorrhea to menstrual disturbance to normal menses. It is frequently associated with infertility. The true incidence is unknown. Most cases occur within close temporal proximity to a pregnancy, usually within 4 months and usually while the woman is in a hypoestrogenized state. Most cases are associated with trauma to the endometrium from surgical procedures, primarily curettage. Increasingly, cases are ass

Adhesion molecules.

The exact mechanisms by which serous ovarian cancer cells invade through their underlying basement membrane or are released from the surface of the ovary have yet to be elucidated. This process undoubtedly has a complex molecular basis that most likely involves multiple cell surface receptors, basement membrane components, intercellular adhesion molecules, and signaling from the cell [137]. One possible mechanism by which ovarian carcinoma tumor cells may alter their basement membrane is by the synthesis and secretion of proteolytic enzymes that degrade their basement membranes [88-94, 138]. Intrauterine adhesions.

Anticipation and suspicion are critical aspects to any discussion of intrauterine adhesions. Curettage between the second and fourth week postpartum is more likely to cause adhesions than is any other endometrial trauma. Infertility, recurrent abortion, or menstrual aberrations after any uterine trauma should cause the physician to suspect the presence of intrauterine adhesions. Hysterosalpingography and hysteroscopy are the ideal methods to make the diagnosis of IUA, and the latter is the safest, least traumatic, and most precise method of treating adhesions. The addition of an intrauterine s

[Adhesive disease].

Results of treatment of 865 patients with adhesive disease are presented, 217 of them were subjected to life-saving operations for acute commissural ileus. Planned operations were made on 336 patients. Due to bad long-term results of the Noble and Chidls-Fillips operations the author prefers simple dissection of commissures. Adhesive disease appears in 2% of cases after operations irrespective of the prophylactic measures. The adhesive process is a natural feature of the organism and it should not be disturbed, since the adhesive disease makes its appearance not due to the predisposition but b

Platelet adhesion.

Platelets do not adhere to surfaces to which flowing blood is normally exposed in vivo. When the lining of a blood vessel is altered or damaged, however, platelets do adhere to the injured site. Platelet adhesion is one of the first events in the formation of hemostatic plugs and thrombi, and plays a part in the development of atherosclerotic lesions. Other surfaces to which platelets adhere include particulate matter in the blood stream, bacteria and other microorganisms, the artificial surfaces of prosthetic devices, and some altered cells in the blood, particularly macrophages. The majority

Laparoscopy for adhesions.

Intestinal and abdominal adhesions may be responsible for a variety of clinical conditions, including chronic recurrent small-bowel obstruction, acute small-bowel obstruction, closed-loop bowel obstruction and, debatably, abdominal or pelvic pain. Experience in laparoscopic surgery has increased at a rapid pace, thus adhesions are no longer considered a contraindication to treatment of these conditions. In recent years, numerous publications have reported the feasibility, safety, and favorable outcome of laparoscopic intervention in various adhesion-related conditions. As adhesions are the mos

Pelvic adhesions.

Pelvic adhesions observed in gynecologic patients are a major contributing factor to infertility, pelvic pain, and/or intestinal obstruction. Such adhesions may be the sequelae to inflammatory processes, endometriosis, and prior surgical intervention. The latter will be the main topic of this chaprer.

[Adhesion in meningococcus].

The adhesive activity of 113 meningococcal strains with different invasive properties and 10 Neisseria nonpathogenic strains have been studied. Adhesive properties have been revealed in 80-82% of these strains. Meningococcal strains isolated from the nasopharynx of carriers possess high hemagglutinating activity. The percentage of cells with pili in these strain was also higher than that in meningococcal strains isolated from the liquor of patients. This shows the presence of direct correlation between the number of pili in the cells (according to the data of electron microscopy) and their act

A smart hydrogel patch with high transparency, adhesiveness and hemostasis for all-round treatment and glucose monitoring of diabetic foot ulcers.

The treatment and management of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is a pretty intractable problem for clinical nursing. Urgently, the "Black Box" status of the healing process prevents surgeons from providing timely analysis for more effective diagnosis and therapy of the wound. Herein, we designed a transparent monitoring system to treat and manage the DFUs with blood oozing and hard-healing, which resolved the problem of blind management for the other conductive patches. This system was prepared from a conductive hydrogel patch with ultra-high transparence (up to 93.6%), adhesiveness and hemostasi

Macrophages from lupus-prone MRL mice are characterized by abnormalities in Rho activity, cytoskeletal organization, and adhesiveness to extracellular matrix proteins.

Macrophages (mphi) from prediseased mice of the major murine models of lupus have an identical defect in cytokine expression that is triggered by serum and/or apoptotic cells. It is striking that cytokine expression in the absence of serum and apoptotic cells is equivalent to that of nonautoimmune mice. Here, we show that mphi from prediseased lupus-prone MRL/MpJ (MRL/+) or MRL/MpJ-Tnfrsf6(lpr) (MRL/lpr) mice also have reversible abnormalities in morphology, cytoskeletal organization, and adhesive properties. In the presence of serum, MRL mphi adhered in increased numbers to a variety of extra

Adhesion paradox: Why adhesion is usually not observed for macroscopic solids.

The adhesion paradox refers to the observation that for most solid objects no adhesion can be detected when they are separated from a state of molecular contact. The adhesion paradox results from surface roughness, and we present experimental and theoretical results that show that adhesion in most cases is "killed" by the longest-wavelength roughness. In addition, adhesion experiments between a human finger and a clean glass plate were carried out, and for a dry finger no macroscopic adhesion occurred. We suggest that the observed decrease in the contact area with increasing shear force result

[Adhesive strength of a β-tricalcium phosphate-enriched bone adhesive].

BACKGROUND: This investigation describes experimental tests of the biomechanical features of a new resorbable bone adhesive based on methacrylate-terminated oligolactides enhanced with osteoconductive β-tricalcium phosphate. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 51 New Zealand white rabbits were randomised to an adhesive group (n = 29) and a control group (n = 22). An extra-articular bone cylinder was taken from the proximal tibia, two stripes of adhesive were applied and the cylinders were replanted. After 10 and 21 days, 3 and 12 months tibial specimens were harvested and the cylinder pull-out test was per
