Dengue fever is a major and expanding global health threat, exacerbated by climate change. The confirmed establishment of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes in multiple Iranian provinces raises serious concerns about potential outbreaks of dengue and other arboviral diseases. From a One Health perspective, understanding how climatic and environmental conditions shape vector establishment is essential for strengthening integrated surveillance and prevention. This underscores the urgent need for evidence-based projections of vector distribution to guide surveillance and control. This

The aim of this study was to observe the occurrence of mosquito larvae, especially Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, in the tanks and axillae of bromeliads at the Bauru Municipal Botanical Gardens, São Paulo, Brazil, highlighting the epidemiological implications for the use of these plants. The majority of the larvae belonged to mosquitos from genus Culex, with only occasional findings of A. aegypti and A. albopictus. The use of screens for protection of the plants, exposure to sunlight, and larger amounts of water in the tanks may have influenced the occurrence and grouping of larvae.

We evaluated the potential of stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans, and two species of mosquitoes, Aedes aegypti and Aedes taeniorhynchus, to transmit Bacillus anthracis Vollum 1B mechanically. After probing on Hartley guinea pigs with a bacteremia of ca. 10(8.6) CFU of B. anthracis per ml of blood, individual or pools of two to four stable flies or mosquitoes were allowed to continue feeding on either uninfected guinea pigs or A/J mice. All three insect species transmitted lethal anthrax infections to both guinea pigs and mice. Both stable flies and mosquitoes transmitted anthrax, even when they

The selection of oviposition sites by a female mosquito is useful knowledge to monitor the frequency and activity of vector species such as Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) and Aedes albopictus (Skuse) (Diptera: Culicidae). In localities where they co-occur, an additional complexity of monitoring is the species identification. As the eggs of both species are not morphologically distinguishable, the eggs must be induced to hatch, and the newly hatched larvae reared to the fourth instar, identified to species based on morphological characters. Thus, it is very important that eggs remain viable. The aim

Studies have suggested animals as possible reservoir hosts for flaviviruses transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes; however, there is limited evidence for the dengue virus in Malaysia. One of the possible ways to determine the zoonotic potential for any pathogen transmission is through blood meal analysis which can provide valuable insights into the feeding preferences of the mosquitoes. Unfortunately, limited information is available on the feeding preferences of Aedes mosquitoes in Malaysia. Thus, this study aimed to identify the blood-feeding preferences of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus from

Vector-borne diseases transmitted by Aedes, including dengue fever, Chikungunya fever, Zika virus, and yellow fever, represent major global public health threats. This study utilized the Biomod2 modeling framework, incorporating 19 bioclimatic variables, to simulate the current and future geographical distributions of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in China under climate change scenarios (SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5). The results indicated that under future climate scenarios, highly suitable regions for both Aedes would decrease in area, while moderately suitable regions would expand. The co-pre

BACKGROUND: Aedes mosquitoes are important invasive species contributing to the spread of chikungunya, dengue fever, yellow fever, zika virus, and other dangerous vector-borne diseases. Aedes albopictus is native to southeast Asia, with rapid expansion due to human activity, showing a wide distribution in the Korean peninsula. Aedes flavopictus is considered to be native to East Asia, with a broad distribution in the region, including the Korean peninsula. A better understanding of the genetic diversity of these species is critical for establishing strategies for disease prevention and vector

BACKGROUND: Dengue (DENV), Chikungunya (CHIKV), Zika (ZIKV), as well as yellow fever (YFV) viruses are transmitted to humans by Aedes spp. females. In Salvador, the largest urban center in north-eastern Brazil, the four DENV types have been circulating, and more recently, CHIKV and ZIKV have also become common. We studied the role of storm drains as Aedes larval development and adult resting sites in four neighbourhoods of Salvador, representing different socioeconomic, infrastructure and topographic conditions.
RESULTS: A sample of 122 storm drains in the four study sites were surveyed twice

The effectiveness of the sticky ovitrap was assessed for the container-breeding Aedes aegypti and Aedes polynesiensis in Moorea, French Polynesia. These mosquitoes are the primary vectors of dengue viruses and Bancroftian filariasis, respectively, in the area. Both Ae. aegypti and Ae. polynesiensis were collected in greatest numbers in sticky ovitraps baited with water or grass infusions rather than leaf infusions. Sticky ovitrap collections were significantly higher for both species in the 12 h post-midday than pre-midday and in traps set in shaded compared with open locations. More females o

The Yellow Fever and Dengue Vector Control Program developed by the Superintendency for the Control of Endemic Diseases in the State of S. Paulo recommends Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus larval density monitoring in cities with domiciliar infestation. The sampling plan which has been applied in the countries of the Presidente Prudente region (SP- Brazil) since 1987 is described. The infestation is measured by using the Breteau Index. A sample of buildings is drawn, monthly and independently, in the infested cities, in which measurements are to be made. The sample is stratified and the elem

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an emerging viral disease affecting cattle and water buffalo, leading to significant socioeconomic impacts. In Southeast Asia, the first LSD outbreak was reported in Vietnam in 2020, and the disease has continued to expand to neighboring countries, including Thailand. Recently, LSD has been reported in wildlife such as yaks and giraffes. Despite being recognized for nearly a century, the mechanisms of lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) transmission remain poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of Aedes albopictus in LSDV transmission. Acc

Reducing the number of host-vector interactions is an effective way to reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases. Repellents are widely used to protect humans from a variety of protozoans, viruses, and nematodes. DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), a safe and effective repellent, was developed during World War II. Fear of possible side effects of DEET has created a large market for "natural" DEET-free repellents with a variety of active ingredients. We present a comparative study on the efficacy of eight commercially available products, two fragrances, and a vitamin B patch. The products were

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Aedes) transmit highly pathogenic viruses such as dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, and Zika which can cause life-threatening diseases in humans. They are the most important vectors of arboviruses in Thailand. Their vectorial capacity (VC) is highly complex mainly due to the interplay between biotic and abiotic factors that vary in time and space. A literature survey was conducted to collate and discuss recent research regarding the influence of Aedes vector biology, behaviour, and ecology on arbovirus transmission in Thailand. The survey followed guideline

Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (l.) and Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Skuse) are the most important vectors of the dengue and yellow-fever viruses. Both took advantage of trade developments to spread throughout the tropics from their native area: A. aegypti originated from Africa and a. albopictus from South-East Asia. We investigated the relationships between A. aegypti and A. albopictus mosquitoes based on three mitochondrial-DNA genes (cytochrome b, cytochrome oxidase I and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5). Little genetic variation was observed for a. albopictus, probably owing to the recent spread
