Her village: experiences of drug-involved women in a female-only aftercare program in the Philippines.

PURPOSE: Women are exposed to vulnerabilities that can lead to drug use or hinder recovery. However, there is a dearth of studies on recovery programs for women. This study aims to add to the literature by examining the feasibility of a women-only aftercare program for recovering users in the Philippines. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The study used a mixed-method design with pre and post-program surveys used to measure changes in participants' recovery capital. Focused group discussions elicited participants' context, their reactions, perceived outcomes and suggestions on the program. FINDIN

Physical Activity, Exercise and Breast Cancer - What Is the Evidence for Rehabilitation, Aftercare, and Survival? A Review.

The current scientific field of exercise interventions in breast cancer is very large. Rehabilitation focuses on restoring or improving quality of life and thus on independence and participation in life. Hence, it is important to investigate exercise interventions in the setting of rehabilitation and aftercare. It is also necessary to determine the influence of physical activity or exercise therapy on the prevention of recurrence and mortality as well as on certain side effects of the disease and its medical treatment in rehabilitation. Physical activity in rehabilitation and aftercare is feas

Topics Mentioned by Stroke Patients during Supportive Phone Calls-Implications for Individualized Aftercare Programs.

By understanding stroke as a chronic disease, aftercare becomes increasingly important. For developing aftercare programs, the patients' perspective regarding, for example, stroke-related symptoms and interactions with the healthcare system is necessary. Records from a local stroke pilot program were used to extract relevant topics from the patients' perspective, as mentioned during a phone call two months after hospital discharge. Data from 157 patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) were included. "Rehabilitation" was mentioned by 67.5% of patients, followed by "spec

Improving Bariatric Patient Aftercare Outcome by Improved Detection of a Functional Vitamin B12 Deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Vitamin B12 deficiency is common after bariatric surgery. Vitamin B12 is a poor predictor of functional vitamin B12 status, since deficiencies might even occur within the reference limits. Therefore, vitamin B12 deficiencies with serum vitamin B12 levels are between 140 and 200 pmol/L remain undetected. Methylmalonic acid (MMA), however, will detect these deficiencies as accumulates due to functional intracellular vitamin B12 deficiencies. MMA is a relative expensive analysis and is therefore not generally available. To lower the costs, we only request MMA when vitamin B12 levels a

[Frankfurt concept of early inpatient rehabilitation after cochlear implant treatment : Feasibility for aftercare. German version].

BACKGROUND: The Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) clinical practice guideline on cochlear implant (CI) treatment, which was updated in 2020, defined the entire process of CI care for the first time. In the present study, the feasibility and results of very early rehabilitation were examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The intervention group (IG) comprised 54 patients in whom rehabilitation was initiated within 14 (maximally 28) days after implantation. Patients with a significantly longer waiting time were included in the control group (CG, n = 21). In addition to

Effectiveness of cognitive behavioural group therapy for social anxiety disorder: long-term benefits and aftercare.

BACKGROUND: Empirical research demonstrates the short- to medium-term efficacy and effectiveness of cognitive behavioural group therapy (CBGT) for social anxiety disorder (SAD). Little is known about the durability of gains beyond 1 year following treatment in real-life clinical settings. Literature regarding the impact of aftercare programs as an adjunct to CBGT treatment on SAD is scarce. AIMS: To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of CBGT for SAD in a community sample and to explore the relationship between long-term treatment outcomes and aftercare support group attendance. METHOD: A l

Web-Based Aftercare for Women With Bulimia Nervosa Following Inpatient Treatment: Randomized Controlled Efficacy Trial.

BACKGROUND: Relapse rates in bulimia nervosa (BN) are high even after successful treatment, but patients often hesitate to take up further treatment. An easily accessible program might help maintain treatment gains. Encouraged by the effects of Web-based eating disorder prevention programs, we developed a manualized, Web-based aftercare program (IN@) for women with BN following inpatient treatment. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of the web-based guided, 9-month, cognitive-behavioral aftercare program IN@ for women with BN following inpatient treatment. M

General practitioners' involvement in oncological aftercare (ACTION): a study protocol for a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: The growing number of cancer survivors in Germany necessitates sustainable, interdisciplinary aftercare. General practitioners (GPs) are well-positioned to provide long-term, trust-based support, including early detection of recurrences and late effects. However, evidence on the level of GP involvement in oncological aftercare, on interdisciplinary aftercare models involving GPs and specialists, and on associated barriers and facilitators remains limited. METHODS: The project "general practitioners' involvement in oncological aftercare" (ACTION; funded by the German Cancer Aid; gr

[Non-muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder: time for a de-escalation of treatment and aftercare].

The aim of this review is to provide information on evidence-based therapy and aftercare strategies of low-risk bladder cancer. For low-grade non-muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (LG-NMIB), active surveillance (AS) is recommended in international guidelines as a treatment alternative to repetitive transurethral bladder tumor resection (TURB). The background to these recommendations is the fact that (1) potentially less aggressive LG-NMIBs can be detected with a high degree of accuracy by experienced clinicians, (2) the rate of progression into invasive or high-grade bladder

Internet-based aftercare for women with bulimia nervosa following inpatient treatment: The role of adherence.

Facing poor long-term outcome and high relapse rates in the treatment of bulimia nervosa, we developed an Internet-based aftercare program for women with severe and chronic bulimia nervosa following inpatient treatment based on previous experiences with self-directed targeted prevention and early intervention programs delivered online. The aim of the present study was to examine adherence to the program in detail, to explore potential variables that predict adherence and to analyze whether adherence affects outcomes. We analyzed data from 126 women in the intervention group of a randomized con

[Patients with malignancies of the oro- and hypopharynx as well as the larynx. Significance/importance of oncological aftercare consultation].

The necessity of a long-time, closely monitored, well-structured, personal and time-consuming aftercare consultation is still discussed controversially. Based on the analysis of our oncological patients with tumours of the pharynx and larynx in the period from 1999-2000 we want to emphasize that after treatment is of vital importance. Besides the main focus of oncology on the early detection of recurrent tumours, distant metastases and second primary tumours as well as a fast interdisciplinary and mostly multimodal treatment planning, consultation is also a central point of reference and coord

Qualitative exploration of patient and caregiver experiences of bowel cancer care in Wales: from diagnosis to aftercare.

INTRODUCTION: Wales has higher rates of bowel cancer incidence and mortality than other UK nations, with over 2300 new cases and 900 deaths annually. Regional disparities in bowel cancer mortality underscore the need for a better understanding of patient experiences of bowel cancer care in Wales as well as exploring potential areas for improvement. This evaluation aimed to explore the experiences of individuals with a history of bowel cancer and their caregivers in Wales, UK, examining diagnosis, treatment and aftercare. The study also explored patient and caregiver recommendations to inform p
