Empathy, impulsiveness, and sensation seeking as mediators between primary psychopathic traits and driving behaviors in French driving offenders.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the links between primary psychopathic traits and driving behavior on the one hand, and driving anger expression on the other hand, through the specific contribution of empathy, impulsiveness, and sensation seeking, in a sample of French driving offenders. METHODS: One thousand six hundred and eighty-six driving offenders completed a paper-and-pencil questionnaire during 110 drivers' rehabilitation programs. RESULTS: Primary psychopathic traits were positively associated with violations and aggressive driving anger expression, and negatively as

Understanding overtaking risk evolution patterns and their influencing factors based on trajectory data.

Understanding the dynamic risk of overtaking behaviors is essential for improving highway safety and guiding adaptive driving strategies. This study develops a stage-based overtaking risk framework, capturing longitudinal and lateral risks across Lane-change, Overtaking, and Back-to-lane stages. A comprehensive risk indicator is constructed by weighting risk metrics at specific stages, and overtaking trajectories are aligned via Dynamic Time Warping for time-series clustering. Three typical risk evolution patterns are identified: hesitant, aggressive, and robust, accounting for 42.45%, 10.07%,

Asymmetric relationship between driving and safety skills.

We hypothesized that the combination of self reported high ratings of driving skills and low ratings of safety skills creates a serious risk for road accident involvement. This study was aimed at investigating the asymmetric interplay between driving and safety skills among Turkish drivers (N=785) using the Driving Skills Inventory [Lajunen, T., Summala, H., 1995. Driver experience, personality, and skill and safety motive dimensions in drivers' self-assessments. Pers. Indiv. Differ. 19, 307-318]. The assumed asymmetric interactions were tested on a number of outcome variables representing ris

Driver irritation and aggressive behaviour.

A sample of 98 drivers responded to a Swedish version of the UK Driving Anger Scale [UK DAS; [Lajunen, T., Parker, D., Stradling, S.G., 1998. Dimensions of driver anger, aggressive and highway code violations and their mediation by safety orientation in UK drivers. Transport. Res. Part F 1, 107-121]. The results indicated that the Swedish version, like the British original, measures three sources of driver irritation: "progress impeded", "reckless driving", and "direct hostility". Structural equation modelling was used to investigate the relationships between the three sources of self-reported

Drivers' car-following behaviours in low-illumination conditions.

Low illumination is a special driving condition that negatively affects drivers' vision, information acquisition (IA) ability, distance recognition and risk perception. This study evaluated drivers' car-following behaviours and characteristics using questionnaire-based research conducted among 214 drivers in Hefei. In this study, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to determine the factor structure of the scale, and the internal consistency of all factors was good. The results show that low illumination strongly influences drivers' following behaviour and that they tend to choose safe a

A Naturalistic Study of Driving Behavior in Older Adults and Preclinical Alzheimer Disease: A Pilot Study.

A clinical consequence of symptomatic Alzheimer's disease (AD) is impaired driving performance. However, decline in driving performance may begin in the preclinical stage of AD. We used a naturalistic driving methodology to examine differences in driving behavior over one year in a small sample of cognitively normal older adults with ( n = 10) and without ( n = 10) preclinical AD. As expected with a small sample size, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups, but older adults with preclinical AD drove less often, were less likely to drive at night, and had few

Driving behavior recognition and scoring: A Bayesian approach to driving simulator data analytics.

Safety is a key factor in operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). Advanced driving assistance systems are designed to assist CMV drivers enhance driving safety and reduce the risk of accidents. This study proposes a framework for driving style recognition and introduces statistical features that enable modeling the behavioral risk of drivers in real-time. These features include main aspects such as speed, throttle, and steering wheel as well as the those surrounding traffic conditions. A full-scale, high-fidelity driving simulator is used to generate the driving data. The driving records a

The dangers of rumination on the road: Predictors of risky driving.

Past studies found many different types of factors can influence dangerous driving behaviors. Driver inattention, such as driving under the influence or using a cell phone while driving, was found to contribute to risky driving behaviors. Rumination is a cognitive process that may also contribute to risky driving behaviors due to its influence on attention and limited executive processes. The present study explores the potential role of rumination in dangerous driving behavior endorsement. It was hypothesized that trait rumination would be significantly related to dangerous driving behaviors a

Non-angry aggressive arousal and angriffsberietschaft: A narrative review of the phenomenology and physiology of proactive/offensive aggression motivation and escalation in people and other animals.

Human aggression typologies largely correspond with those for other animals. While there may be no non-human equivalent of angry reactive aggression, we propose that human proactive aggression is similar to offense in other animals' dominance contests for territory or social status. Like predation/hunting, but unlike defense, offense and proactive aggression are positively reinforcing, involving dopamine release in accumbens. The drive these motivational states provide must suffice to overcome fear associated with initiating risky fights. We term the neural activity motivating proactive aggres

The impact of childhood symptoms of conduct disorder on driver aggression in adulthood.

BACKGROUND: Despite limited empirical investigation, existing scientific literature suggests that individuals with a history or current diagnosis of conduct disorder (CD) may be more likely to demonstrate reckless and aggressive driving. Much of the limited research in this field examines the impact of childhood CD on driver behaviour and collision risk in young adults. Few if any, studies assess the impact of this disorder on driver behaviour beyond age 21 years. The current research is a population-based study of the impact of CD symptoms during childhood on the risk of engaging in driver ag

Effects of inferred social status and a beginning driver's sticker upon aggression of drivers in Japan.

The present study examined how inferred social status and a beginning driver's sticker influenced aggressive drivers' behavior on the road in Japan. A 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design was constructed to examine the effects of social status of an experimental car (high or low), with a beginning driver's sticker or no beginning driver's sticker, and a male or female driver. Analysis showed that horn-honking latency in the sticker condition was longer than that in the no-sticker condition in the low status car. In the high status car, the horn was sounded sooner in the condition with a beginning driver

Assessing the influence of boundary conditions, driving behavior and data analysis methods on real driving CO2 and NOx emissions.

The need to verify vehicle emissions in real world operation led to the implementation of Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test procedures, effective since September 2017 for new Euro 6 cars following the Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/427, which defines the RDE test conditions and data analysis methods to allow representative results. Main factors addressed by the regulation include the share of driving operation, ambient temperature range, altitude and elevation difference. However, RDE is still debatable since not only boundary conditions but also the evaluation methods and trip selection are

Visual inhibitions of automobile driving.

Three patients in psychotherapy who were symptomatically unable to drive automobiles also gave histories of having been afflicted with oculomotor disorders in childhood. This calls attention to the previously undiscussed visual dimension of automobile driving, which is considered in general terms. The specific question of an inhibition of visual function resulting in avoidance of automobile driving is then raised, and a case illustration given in which the attachment of sexual and aggressive meanings to the act of looking was important in the formation of an automobile driving symptom. The par

[The syndrome of drive pathology in children and adolescents (the age-related and nosological aspects)].

43 children and adolescents, 27 boys and 16 girls aged 7 to 15, with the drive disorders syndrome were investigated. The diagnosis of schizophrenia was in 30 patients (the first group), residual organic brain damage in 13 (the second group). In the first group an onset of disease coincided with the first age crisis (3-4 years). Among the variants of the drive disorders such disorders as a runaway from home and wandering, that had irresistible and impulsive character were dominant. Near the puberty, the sexual and aggressive-sadistic drives prevailed. The drive disorders were accompanied with e

In aggressive forms of mastocytosis, TET2 loss cooperates with c-KITD816V to transform mast cells.

Although a role for oncogenic KIT in driving mast cell disease is clear, the mechanisms driving the multiple phenotypic and clinical manifestations of this disorder are not well elucidated. We now show, using a large cohort of mastocytosis patients, including an almost equal number of aggressive and nonaggressive cases of systemic mastocytosis, that in contrast to the oncogenic KITD816V, TET2 mutation statistically associates with aggressive forms of the disease. By infecting primary murine bone marrow-derived mast cells with KITD816V, we also observe a significant and competitive growth advan

Aggressive behaviour and violence in children and adolescents with FASD: A synthesizing review.

Interpretation and response to behaviour is predicated on understanding. However, our present understanding of aggressive behaviour, especially for complex and vulnerable populations is limited. The purpose of this review is to enhance our understanding of aggressive behaviour by providing a comprehensive outline of the conditions and underlying mechanisms that drive aggressive behaviour for children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), focusing on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). This review will: (1) Synthesize the present literature regarding aggressive behaviour

Personality domains and traits that predict self-reported aberrant driving behaviours in a southeastern US university sample.

Personality traits are meaningful predictors of many significant life outcomes, including mortality. Several studies have investigated the relationship between specific personality traits and driving behaviours, e.g., aggression and speeding, in an attempt to identify traits associated with elevated crash risk. These studies, while valuable, are limited in that they examine only a narrow range of personality constructs and thus do not necessarily reveal which traits in constellation best predict aberrant driving behaviours. The primary aim of this study was to use a comprehensive measure of pe

Driving Stress-Induced Effects on the Orofacial Region and Its Functions and Health Behaviors in Riyadh: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

Driving stress is a multifaceted phenomenon, and the experience of driving invokes stress. Driving causes the activation of stress-response mechanisms, leading to short-term and long-term stress responses resulting in physiological and behavioral changes. The aim of this study was to evaluate driving stress-initiated effects on orofacial functions and health behaviors in the Riyadh population. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Riyadh using a pre-validated set of questionnaires for habitual information, a driving stress assessment using a driving-behavior inventory, and an assessment of

Targeting SQLE-Mediated Cholesterol Metabolism to Promote Oxidative Stress and Attenuate Drug Resistance in Osteosarcoma.

High-grade osteosarcoma presents a significant clinical challenge due to unpredictable therapeutic responses and aggressive progression. This study aimed to identify the critical molecular pathways driving chemotherapy resistance and aggressive phenotypes in osteosarcoma patients. Through transcriptomic and bioinformatic analyses, we identified cholesterol biosynthesis as a key upregulated metabolic pathway in poor chemotherapy responders, where squalene epoxidase (SQLE) emerged as an exploratory candidate hub gene whose elevated expression significantly correlates with shortened survival in t
