Krypton-85 is mainly produced in nuclear reactors by fission of uranium and plutonium and released during chopping and dissolution of spent fuel rods in nuclear reprocessing facilities. This study presents the pattern of exposure to uranium and other occupational pollutants known to be potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic and used at the main uranium conversion plant in France. For different uranium compounds specified according to their solubility and purity, and 16 other categories of pollutants: chemicals, fibres, vapours, dust, and heat a time- and plant-specific job exposure matrix (JEM) was created covering the period 1960-2006. For 73 jobs and for each pollutant the amount and frequency of exposure were assessed on a four-level scale by different time periods.

A series of (133)Xe detections in April 2011 made at the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) International Monitoring System noble gas station in Darwin, Australia, were analysed to determine the most likely source location. The network described in this paper has been set up to provide detailed time-series data on concentrations of 222Rn in air at various locations within the Alligator Rivers Region, over a time frame of several years. The Xcounts algorithm for calculating air concentrations of radioactive xenon isotopes (Eslinger et al., 2023) has been extended to estimate 127Xe in addition to 131mXe, 133mXe, 133Xe, and 135Xe. The algorithm was applied to 119 samples collected with a SAUNA QB system (Ringbom et al., 2023) during a two-month atmospheric tracer release experiment. The algorithm identified two samples with 127Xe present from a single 1.5 h release about 3.5 km upwind of the sampler and no false detections of 127Xe were observed in the other samples.

Results of radioactivity measurements in Bratislava aerosols following the Fukushima accident showed that at least three radioactive plumes arrived to Bratislava as indicated by (131)I/(137)Cs activity ratios. The studies covered 35 subjects with chronic cholecystitis who had to work in radionuclide-contaminated territory. There appeared changes in examinees' lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defense systems.
