There were shown technique and clinical examples of the use of directional tissue regeneration in cases of bone tissue deficit in distal parts maxilla. Clinical cases were described of maxillary sinus bottom lifting with simultaneous alveolar process widening and single stage implant installation.

Since 1981 in cleft lip and palate patients a combined surgical-orthodontic procedure has been performed to eliminate the residual alveolar cleft. For early secondary bone grafting (before the eruption of the canine tooth) initially the graft tissue of choice was rib. Since 1984 chin bone has also been used. Sixty one patients with complete unilateral clefts were reviewed (mean age 9.5 years). 15.7% of the rib graft cases showed resorption of the graft of 50% and more. The healing of bone defect in eight adult rabbits was studied. The age range of animals was 5-23 months. The bone defects were made symmetrically in the inferior surface of the mandibles. The material presented in this paper is a preliminary report on the use of bone marrow grafting in the secondary closure of alveolar palatal defects in young children with mixed dentition. A group of patients is presented in whom successful closure of an alveolar fistula was achieved with improvement of the eruption pattern of the teeth adjacent to the cleft due to new bone formation that allowed early orthodontic alignment. The concept of the formation of a dynamic growing bone from bone marrow grafting is discussed.

The problems to be solved are those largely caused by prolonged wearing of old, inadequate dentures where faulty occlusion, ill-fitting bases, poor denture hygiene, parafunctional habits combine to produce denture stomatitis and papillary hyperplasia. A programme is set out to deal with these problems and to adjust abnormal frenum and muscle attachment.

Tricalcium phosphate ceramic, with 50% porosity and 400 to 500 micrometer pore diameter, was used to augment the edentulous alveolar ridge of 10 adult mongrel dogs. The healing of an extraction wound is taken as starting-point, and complications and their avoidance are discussed insofar as they affect the shape of the alveolar process. Surgical methods of treating cysts and other tumours are reviewed, and it is shown how these may be carried out with little damage to the form of the denture-base. Every dentist should bear in mind subsequent prosthetic care whenever undertaking surgery of the oral cavity.

To bridge the cleft in the alveolar bone and to allow for physiologic eruption of the canine teeth, alveolar bone grafting is often necessary in patients with cleft lips and palates. The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effect of the ceramic beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) at different sites of alveolar reconstruction and to evaluate its properties. From 1997 to 2002, beta-TCP was implanted as bone substitute in 152 patients using a standardized study protocol. Secondary bone grafting in cleft lip and palate patients is performed preferably before the eruption of permanent canine in order to provide adequate periodontal support for eruption and preservation of the teeth adjacent to the cleft. Presented here with is a case of unilateral cleft lip and palate, which was followed up from birth to 15 years of age. The role of an orthodontist in the team approach for management of such anomalies is described. Also discussed in detail is the entire range of treatment procedures the child underwent, especially the role of secondary bone grafting.

In this clinical study, a combined tricalcium phosphate ceramic (TCP) microfibrillar collagen supracrestal graft was used in conjunction with pocket elimination surgery as a soft tissue space filler to maintain marginal and interproximal tissue heights. Fifteen volunteer adult patients (8 male, 7 female) aged 37 to 48 years were selected. Standardized clinical probing measurements were used to evaluate soft tissue recession, clinical attachment, and probing pocket depths. Intraoral photographs and radiographs supplemented documentation. Twenty-five paired test and control sites were evaluated.

4 vertical lesions at 3 teeth in 2 volunteer adults with severe periodontitis were treated by open surgical debridement, osseous allografts and barrier membranes.
