BACKGROUND: Amaranthaceae is a large family of angiosperms consisting of the former Amaranthaceae sensu stricto and the former Chenopodiaceae, distributed from the tropics to more temperate regions. In apparently healthy animals from same farms, fecal thiaminase and a significant reduction in erythrocyte trans-ketolase activity was observed. We studied the effects of peptides from Amaranthus cruentus L., Rauwolfia serpentina Benth., and citrus plants on contractile activity of the uterine myometrium in rats. Pectin substances inhibited spontaneous contractile activity of uterine muscles and abolished the stimulatory effect of oxytocin. Pectins had a synergistic effect with epinephrine and acetylcholine.

In order to develop a new environmentally friendly microbial herbicide for the field of weed control, this study used the metabolite butyl hydroxybenzoate (BP) of the HY-02 strain of Alternaria as the research object.
