Preventive effect of aminocaproic acid combined with nimodipine on short-term rebleeding in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a life-threatening and life-limiting disease with high mortality and disability rates. Herein, we aim to explore the preventive effect of aminocaproic acid combined with nimodipine on short-term rebleeding in patients with aSAH. Retrospectively, the medical data of patients with aSAH ( n  = 256) were collected. According to different treatment methods, patients were categorized into the aminocaproic acid + nimodipine group ( n  = 152) and the nimodipine group ( n  = 104), and were treated for 1 week. Baseline characteristics, incidence of rebleeding

Replacement of aprotinin by ε-aminocaproic acid in infants undergoing cardiac surgery: consequences for blood loss and outcome.

BACKGROUND: Once aprotinin was no longer available for clinical use, ε-aminocaproic acid (EACA) and tranexamic acid became the only two options for antifibrinolytic therapy. We compared aprotinin and EACA with respect to their blood-sparing efficacy and other major clinical outcome criteria in infants undergoing cardiac surgery. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed data from a large consecutive cohort of infants (n=227) aged 31-365 days undergoing primary cardiac surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass encompassing the transition from aprotinin to EACA (aprotinin n=88, EACA n=139); all other

Comparison of Topical Tranexamic Acid and Aminocaproic Acid for Reducing Blood Loss in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Trial in Simultaneous Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Tranexamic acid (TXA) and epsilon-aminocaproic acid (EACA) are antifibrinolytic agents commonly used to reduce blood loss in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Although TXA is widely adopted, EACA offers a potentially more economical alternative. However, head-to-head comparisons using paired designs remain limited. The present randomized controlled trial included 294 patients undergoing bilateral TKA. Each patient received topical TXA in one knee and topical EACA in the contralateral knee in a randomized sequence. Primary outcomes included total perioperative blood loss and total drain output ove

A prospective, randomized, double-blinded single-site control study comparing blood loss prevention of tranexamic acid (TXA) to epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) for corrective spinal surgery.

BACKGROUND: Multilevel spinal fusion surgery has typically been associated with significant blood loss. To limit both the need for transfusions and co-morbidities associated with blood loss, the use of anti-fibrinolytic agents has been proposed. While there is some literature comparing the effectiveness of tranexamic acid (TXA) to epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) in cardiac procedures, there is currently no literature directly comparing TXA to EACA in orthopedic surgery. METHODS/DESIGN: Here we propose a prospective, randomized, double-blinded control study evaluating the effects of TXA, EACA

Development of CdS Nanostructures by Thermal Decomposition of Aminocaproic Acid-Mixed Cd-Thiourea Complex Precursor: Structural, Optical and Photocatalytic Characterization.

The present work deals with two different CdS nanostructures produced via hydrothermal and solvothermal decompositions of aminocaproic acid (ACA)-mixed Cd-thiourea complex precursor at 175 °C. Both nanostructures were extensively characterized for their structural, morphological and optical properties. The powder X-ray diffraction characterization showed that the two CdS nanostructures present a wurtzite morphology. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray characterizations revealed that the hydrothermal decomposition produced well-shaped CdS flowers composed of six dendritic p

Obstruction of the renal pelvis due to an insoluble blood clot after epsilon-aminocaproic acid therapy: resolution with intraureteral streptokinase instillations.

PURPOSE: We demonstrate the effectiveness of intraureteral streptokinase instillations for the resolution of an insoluble blood clot in the renal pelvis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A patient with renal adenocarcinoma had prolonged hematuria related to involvement of the "pyelum" by the tumor. An insoluble blood clot obstruction of the left renal collecting system developed as a consequence of epsilon aminocaproic acid therapy, which was treated with low dose streptokinase through a ureteral catheter. RESULTS: Complete resolution of the clot and obstruction occurred within 3 days of therapy. CON

[The effect of epsilon-aminocaproic acid on the normalization of embolizing fatty matter in the rabbit lung following experimental fractures. A polarized light study].

It has been confirmed that epsilon-aminocaproic acid (EACA), an inhibitor of fibrinolysis, reduced the incidence of fat embolism in the lung of rabbits with experimental bone fractures. Microscopic specimens of lungs, examined under polarized light, demonstrated the reduced amounts of lipoid materials that were prevalently undergraded. The action of the drug is owed to the inhibition of some primary mechanisms, involved in the genesis and diffusion of post-traumatic fat embolism.
