BACKGROUND: Andrographis paniculata is a health food used extensively in Southeast Asia, India and China and contains the pharmacologically important phytochemical andrographolide. Although andrographolide has antihepatotoxic activity, its bioavailability from A. paniculata is restricted by its rapid clearance and high plasma protein binding. The aim of this study was to formulate a herbosome of andrographolide with a naturally occurring phospholipid in order to enhance the bioavailability and hepatoprotective activity of andrographolide in rats.
RESULTS: Andrographolide herbosome equivalent

Proteins of the macroglobulin family are prime targets of venom enzymes in snake bite. A massive reduction in the active concentration of these multifunctional proteins in snake bite, makes the living system vulnerable to dysregulation. This study investigates the ability of Indian polyvalent anti-snake venom (ASV), methanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata (MAP) and their combination in rescuing human alpha 2-macroglobulin (A2MG) and its homologues in rat plasma, from inactivation by Naja naja (N.N) venom enzymes. In-vitro experiments were conducted with heparinized human plasma and in-vi

Momordica charantia and Andrographis paniculata are the commonly used herbs by the diabetic patients in Pampanga, Philippines. While the anti-diabetic potential of Momordica charantia is well established in streptozocin- or alloxan-induced diabetic animals, the anti-diabetic potential of Andrographis paniculata in alloxan-induced diabetic rat is not known. Neither the effects of these herbs on estrous cyclicity of alloxan-induced diabetic rats are elucidated. Thus, in these experiments, Momordica charantia fruit juice or Andrographis paniculata decoction was orally administered to alloxan-indu

Dental caries and associated oral infections require biomaterials that promote remineralization while controlling bacterial growth and maintaining cytocompatibility. In this study, a sol-gel-derived silica-based 58S bioactive glass was investigated as a carrier for Andrographis paniculata (AP) extract (AP@58S-2) for antibacterial dental applications. Spherical 58S particles were synthesized via a two-step sol-gel route, yielding an amorphous glass with a high specific surface area of 786.3 m2 g-1 and mesopores distributed in the 1.49-2.14 nm range, as confirmed by SEM, TEM, XRD, and nitrogen a

Andrographis paniculata, a medicinal species within the Acanthaceae family, is widely recognized as a "traditional Chinese herbal antibiotic," with andrographolides (ADs) serving as its primary bioactive components. Nevertheless, the molecular regulatory mechanisms governing the biosynthesis of ADs remain poorly understood. In this study, Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation significantly induced the expression of ApIPPI, a gene encoding isopentenyl pyrophosphate isomerase, which is correlated with the accumulation of ADs. Sequence analysis revealed that the ApIPPI promoter contains a variety of MYB

COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This infectious disease significantly targets the upper and lower respiratory tracts of humans and animals. The mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection are crucially mediated by specific viral proteins, such as the spike protein, as well as various enzymes, including proteases and transferases, and host proteins, including the ACE2 receptor. These proteins facilitate viral attachment and viral replication. This study aimed to identify the potential candidate compounds from Andrographis paniculata due to its anti-SARS-CoV-2 property, examined using both in v
