Acute respiratory and metabolic acidosis as well as metabolic alkalosis increased (by 11, 11, 21%) whereas respiratory alkalosis antagonized (by 10%) the partial steady state block produced by pipecuronium infusion on the anterior tibialis muscle of the cat. The duration of neuromuscular block following six successive doses of pipecuronium was prolonged 1.4-fold during long-lasting metabolic alkalosis while this parameter was shortened to half of that in control cats during acidosis. The influcnce of steroids on the specific activities of glycolytic enzymes was studied in the caput and cauda epididymidis of the rat. In castrated animals, increases in enzyme activities were induced by the administration of androgenic steroids whilst oestradiol and progesterone were without effect. OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical usefulness of the antiandrogen flutamide in the treatment modality for hirsutism in women.

Serum androstanediol glucuronide (3 alpha-diol G), a metabolite of the active androgens dihydrotestosterone and androstanediol, was elevated in 28 consecutive women with idiopathic hirsutism (IH).
