Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign tumour composed predominantly of blood vessels, smooth muscle tissue and adipose tissue. It is a rare disorder found in 0.1% of men and 0.22% of women. AML is most often manifested as a solitary tumour, but can also be found with multiple lesions in various organs. AML is predominantly asymptomatic, but may present with different symptoms depending on the size and position. Patients often have flank pain and microscopic or macroscopic haematuria. AML can also debut with spontaneous atraumatic bleeding in the retroperitoneum, Wunderlich's syndrome.

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare, benign tumor composed of fat cells, smooth muscle cells, and blood vessels. They are commonly found in the kidney but have also been reported to occur in the liver, ovary, fallopian tube, spermatic cord, palate, and colon. Most often, they are discovered as an incidental finding on computed tomography scan and remain inconsequential; however, certain characteristics such as size, presence of aneurysms, and location can transform this disease process into a life-threatening entity. Here, we describe the case of a 30-year-old pregnant woman with bilateral renal AM

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign clonal neoplasm that consists of varying amounts of mature adipose tissue, smooth muscle, and thick-walled vessels. Approximately 20% of AMLs are found in patients with tuberous sclerosis syndrome (TS), an autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by mental retardation, epilepsy, and adenoma sebaceous, a distinctive skin lesion. Massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage from AML, also known as Wunderlich's syndrome, has been found in up to 10% of patients and represents the most significant and feared complication. The presence of even a small amount of fat within a r

BACKGROUND: Renal angiomyolipoma is a benign mezenchymal tumour with prevalence of 0.3-3% of all surgically resected renal tumours. Tumour is often associated with tuberous sclerosis complex or with another fakomatosis. Tumour has typical pathological image in computer tomography notation that enables the diagnosis. Symptomatology and possible complications depend on the tumour size. Large or symptomatic tumours are indicated for resection, nephrectomy or local ablation.
METHODS AND RESULTS: 612 patients with renal tumour were operated at the Department of Urology faculty hospital in Pilsen.

We report a unique case of a 42-year-old woman with a renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma associated with elevated serum prolactin levels and presenting with galactorrhea. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed no pituitary abnormality, and abdominal imaging demonstrated a large right renal mass. Pathologic analysis of the radical nephrectomy specimen revealed an epithelioid angiomyolipoma. She had an uneventful postoperative recovery with complete normalization of her serum prolactin level and resolution of galactorrhea. To our knowledge, the association between epithelioid angiomyolipom

We discuss a case of a giant renal angiomyolipoma. A 28 year-old woman presented with a history of a painless and swelling abdominal mass. A computerized tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen demonstrated a 27 x 13 x 11 cm tumor in the right retroperitoneum. At laparotomy, a wide excision of the mass was performed and the histopathological examination of the resected specimen revealed the presence of an angiomyolipoma. The clinical, radiological and pathological findings of this case are reported with a review of the literature.

The authors report their experience of 11 cases of renal angiomyolipoma over an interval of 20 years, observed in 10 women (90.9%) and one man (9.1%) with a mean age of 46 years (range: 21 to 63). Clinical symptoms were dominated by loin pain (100%), haematuria (45.4%), lumbar mass (72.7%), fever (18%). In one woman, AML was associated with "tuberous sclerosis". Preoperatively, the diagnosis was established by ultrasound and CT scan in 45.4% of patients. The size of the tumour varied from 7 to 14 cm in 10 patients and in one patient was only about 3.6 cm. Two women had bilateral tumours. Treat

A massive renal angiomyolipoma, measuring 45 x 20 x 15 cm and weighing 3,500 g in a patient with tuberous sclerosis is presented. While renal angiomyolipomas may become quite large, this is one of the largest such tumors ever reported.

Herewith referred a case of renal angiomyolipoma relieved on a patient of 62. The new involvement has been found following an evidence of a keen syntomathology related by a steep abdominal ache centred above all on the right hypocondrium followed by a general light ache. The ecography and the "TAC" on the bely have showed a new enlarged involvement, centred on the hypocondrium and on the right oval side of a diameter of nearly 35 cm, that moved anteriorly the right renal, with an involvement of a perirenal hematoma. The surgery has ended with a nephrectomy with the drop of the involvement on t

We present a patient with tuberous sclerosis and bilateral angiomyolipomas with a right partial staghorn calculi in which the calculi was managed with a percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Despite the inherent risk of hemorrhage with a percutaneous approach compounded by the fact that this was done directly through a tumor, we were able to render the patient stone free with no intraoperative bleeding, complications, or the need for postoperative blood transfusion. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of percutaneous nephrolithotomy directly through a renal angiomyolipoma.

Six computed tomography examinations were performed on four patients: two of them had tuberous sclerosis, and the other two had solitary angiomyolipomas. Computed tomography is an easy way of diagnosing tumoral hemorrhages and thus facilitates the supervision of patients with tuberous sclerosis. In two patients, the authors observed dense masses that might have indicated cartilage deposits.

A patient with tuberous sclerosis and a normal intravenous urogram 5 years previously presented with a large and palpable upper pole renal mass. Since patients with tuberous sclerosis have small bilateral hamartomas, a Wilms' tumor was suspected. In retrospect, inhomogenous nephrograms should have alerted the radiologist to the multiplicity of other small lesions. Also, a partially lucent rim should have sustantiated that the lesion was not a Wilms' tumor.

CME-Sonography 104: Angiomyolipomas Abstract. Angiomyolipomas are the most common benign kidney tumors. Approximately 80 % are spontaneously occurring tumors, the majority <1.0 cm (approximately 54 %). These tumors do not grow and are harmless. Tumors between 1.0 and 2.5 cm (approx. 44 %) also very rarely grow and remain harmless. Larger tumors are rarely found (about 2 %). These must be carefully monitored, as tumors >4.0 cm can spontaneously manifest dangerous bleeding. Apart from spontaneous occurrence, there are also angiomyolipomas in the context of the tuberous sclerosis complex (TCS). S

Wünderlich syndrome (WS) is a spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage confined to the subcapsular or perinephric space without a history of trauma. Since it is a rare condition with a significant mortality rate if not treated timely, it is essential to identify its risk factors and early clinical manifestations for a favorable outcome. Various conditions are associated, but the most common causes are benign and malignant renal neoplasms. We present a 26-year-old female with a history of tonic-clonic seizures who presented to the ED with intense abdominal pain located on the right flank with a p

The incorporation of telemedicine and artificial intelligence for early screening and assessment of severity of life-style disorders has a great potential for better assessment in a busy outpatient clinic and thereby curtail down the related morbidities. A computer based algorithm based upon standardized questionnaire (from established assessment tools) is designed to assess the risk of obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). In addition the incorporation of basic screening questions of anamnesis help in suggesting a probable diagnosis of sleep related disorder as well. The overall data at o

Angiomyolipoma is a benign solid renal neoplasm. A giant angiomyolipoma is more than 10cm by size, but it can grow to huge proportions. Our case appears to be the third largest angiomyolipoma and the largest among bilateral giant renal angiomyolipoma in the indexed literature. A 26-year-old man presented with large right abdominal swelling for the past three years, which was occupying his right flank and iliac region, extending beyond the midline. Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a large well-defined mass in the right side of the abdomen, crossing the midline and measuring 35 × 20 ×

Angiomyolipoma (AML) arises primarily from the kidney but may grow into the retroperitoneal space mimicking a primary retroperitoneal tumor. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) and core needle biopsy of AML, particularly the fat-predominant variant, may be difficult to distinguish from retroperitoneal well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLS) or lipoma. Commonly used immunomarkers, MDM2 and p16, have proven useful in diagnosing WDLS and dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS), while HMB45 and Melan-A are melanocyte-related markers characteristically expressed in AML. In this study, we investigated the utili
