The present study investigated the effect of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) on bone mass and serum lipids in the rat with dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-induced mammary carcinoma. The animals received DHEA once daily, percutaneously, at the dose of 5, 10, or 20 mg for 9 months following a single dose of 20 mg DMBA at 50-52 days of age. In 12 male and 12 female Wistar rats, 7-9 weeks of age, a solution of 0.05 ml of 1% 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) dissolved in acetone was injected directly into the submandibular glands biweekly, after the gland had been injured. Alpha-terthienyl is toxic to late embryonic stages ofRana pipiens in the presence of sunlight. Neither α-terthienyl alone in the dark nor a previously photolyzed solution of α-terthienyl has comparable activity. The LC50 was 0.11 ppm with 30 min of exposure and 0.018 ppm with 2 hr of exposure to sunlight.
