Gender Equity in Rheumatology Research: Global Analysis of Authors.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate gender representation of authors in rheumatology research over the last decade. METHODS: Using metadata from original and review articles published between 2015 and 2024 in SCImago top two quartile (Q1, Q2) rheumatology journals, author gender was classified using two public databases. Geographic location of first-author affiliation was also obtained. Analyses summarized trends by year, journal quartile, and geographic region. RESULTS: We included 52,796 articles from 38 journals (19 Q1). There was parity in first authorship between women (45%) and men (43%) in Q1 b

Bibliometric Analysis of Myelomeningocele Management: National Disease Burden versus Publication Volume.

BACKGROUND: Myelomeningocele (MMC) disproportionately affects low-resource areas and regions without mandatory folic acid fortification. No specific literature exists on the distribution of research output regarding neurosurgical management of myelomeningocele worldwide in relation to regional disease burden. We aimed to examine the country of origin and patient population of published papers on MMC and topics related to neurosurgical management of MMC, to determine whether these were proportionate to disease burden. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted on neurosurgical aspec

Women's Representation in Cardiac Anesthesiology Publications: A Multi-journal Retrospective Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Gender disparities in academic medicine persist despite increasing female enrollment. Cardiac anesthesiology, a predominantly male subspecialty, may reflect systemic inequities. India contributes substantially to cardiac anesthesiology literature, yet the representation of Indian women within this global scholarly output remains uncharacterized. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective cross-sectional study of four cardiac anesthesiology journals, January 2020 to January 2026. All articles published in the Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthe

Reassessing the evidence linking clinical leadership to AI deployment outcomes.

Li et al. report that clinician last authorship is associated with greater "impact" in AI deployment trials. This commentary argues that current evidence is insufficient to attribute this to clinical leadership per se. Concerns include outcome definition in a literature where 88% of trials are positive, statistical instability from only 13 non-events, authorship as a noisy proxy for leadership, and structural confounding by trial design and geography.

[On Freud's contributions to Villaret's Handwörterbuch der Gesamten Medizin (1888-91)].

Starting from an unpublished list of contributors to the handbook, Freud's authorship is established for three unsigned articles about the cranial nerves abducens, accessorius and (in parts) facialis. His authorship of the "Aphasia" article which has been disputed by Scherrer is confirmed. The section "II. physiology" of the article on the brain which has come to be ascribed to him is positively attributed to the physiologist Johannes Gad, the article on infantile paralysis to Alfred Goldscheider.

Gender disparities in leadership of methodological research in health science.

OBJECTIVES: Gender disparities in methodological studies are largely unexplored. We aimed to examine gender representation between first and last authorship positions in methodological research in health science. METHODS: We searched for methodological articles as part of a large study focused on creating a methodological study reporting checklist. We extracted the names of the first and last authors of all included studies and determined their gender using Genderize.io, classifying authors as women if the gender probability was ≥ 60%. Our primary outcome was the proportion of studies with wo

Malacostraca Podophthalmata Britanni 18151875 by William Elford Leach and the history of its fragmented publication (Crustacea: Decapoda).

The present study documents the fragmented publication history of Malacostraca Podophthalmata Britanni by William Elford Leach, illustrated with coloured figures of all the species by James Sowerby. This work was originally proposed to consist of 12 or 14 numbers. One number was to be published every two months between the years 1815 and 1818. Although this was increased to 19 numbers its publication by James Sowerby halted at number 17 in 1820. In that year Leach had a complete nervous breakdown and, although he eventually recovered, he was retired from his post at the British Museum in 1822.

Enabling remuneration for patient authors of company-sponsored publications: approaches and case study examples aligned with Good Publication practice.

Patient authors have been increasingly included on company-sponsored research publications, contributing a unique and needed expertise. Patients are routinely and rightfully remunerated for their contributions to advisory boards and non-authorship publication activities, such as peer review. However, the remuneration of patients for authorship activities has remained inconsistent and even contentious. Here, a working group of Good Publication Practice (GPP) steering committee members, patients and patient involvement and engagement experts, and industry partners present six commonly described

Easy-to-Read: Evolution and Perspectives-A Bibliometric Analysis of Research, 1978-2021.

The purpose of this paper is to observe the use of the Easy-to-Read term in the international scientific literature. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was carried out using the Web of Science database, focusing on the period between 1978 and 2021. From this, 1065 records that met the search criteria were further identified. After applying the PRISMA model, the final analysis was performed on a corpus of 102 documents, comprising an analysis of the keywords and expressions where the term was found, an authorship analysis, a citation analysis, as well as a co-occurrence analysis. The publicatio

When promotion becomes a bounty on publications: how academic reward systems shape publication behavior, with lessons from Nepal.

The criteria institutions use to appoint and promote academics shape how science is produced. Where advancement is tied tightly to publication counts, researchers respond rationally to the incentive, and publication behavior shifts toward volume. This article uses the faculty-promotion regulations of Tribhuvan University, Nepal's largest higher education institution, as a worked example of how publication-weighted criteria may reward output over scientific merit. The framework allocates the majority of open-competition marks to research publications, sets minimum article counts for promotion,

IPL-M1 interaction shapes pre-reflective social differentiation in the human action system: new insights from TBS and TMS combined.

The conscious experience of being the author of our own actions is thought to be grounded in pre-reflective and low-level sensorimotor representations of the self as different from the other. It has been suggested that the inferior parietal lobe (IPL) is generally involved in self-other differentiation processes and in providing an explicit sense of action authorship. However, direct evidence for its causal and functional role in distinguishing self-related and other-related sensorimotor representations is lacking. The current study employed theta-burst stimulation (TBS) to condition left IPL'
