Pregnancy Outcomes Following Planned Cesarean Section: Experience From a Tertiary Care Hospital in Bahrain.

INTRODUCTION: While current clinical guidelines recommend scheduling repeat cesarean sections (CSs) at or after 39 weeks of gestation to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes, emergent circumstances, such as spontaneous labor or acute maternal or fetal concerns, may necessitate performing the procedure prior to reaching this gestational age. This study aimed to compare maternal and neonatal outcomes associated with repeat CSs performed either before or at/after 39 weeks of gestation. In addition, it identified the indications of emergency repeat cesarean sections (EmRCS). The findings are ex

Overdose among youth in Bahrain: psycho-social characteristics, contact with helping agencies and problems.

A one year cohort of 67 overdose attempts among youth (15-24 years) was examined as part of a case control study. The prevalence rate of 105 per 100,000 population is lower than reported rates in the West but higher than those for the region. The majority of attempters were females and nationals who used paracetamol, and their suicide intent was low. Thirteen percent visited a helping agency in the previous week and 18% in the previous month. The most common difficulties preceding the overdoses were problems with parents, school or work, social isolation and problems with boyfriends, or girlfr

Isoperistaltic Side-to-side Anastomosis in Colorectal Surgery: Outcomes and Comparative Insights from Bahrain.

INTRODUCTION: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy and a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The optimal anastomosis technique after surgical resection remains controversial, as each method presents distinct advantages and drawbacks. In particular, antiperistaltic and isoperistaltic side-to-side anastomosis (SSA) are associated with varying benefits and postoperative outcomes. This study highlights the benefits of isoperistaltic SSA and compares its outcomes with existing literature on antiperistaltic techniques. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was

Maternal and Clinical Outcomes of Placenta Accreta Spectrum: Insights from a Retrospective Study in Bahrain.

Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) refers to a group of abnormal placental attachments in which the placenta adheres too deeply to the uterine wall, with varying degrees of invasion classified as accreta, increta, or percreta. Increased rates of uterine surgeries, advanced maternal age, and cesarean deliveries have all contributed to an increase in the incidence of PAS. Complications associated with PAS can lead to severe intrapartum or postpartum hemorrhage, hysterectomy, and significant maternal morbidity, making early diagnosis and management crucial for improving outcomes. Understanding the e

Incidence and clinical profile of herpes zoster in primary care in Bahrain - A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Herpes zoster (HZ) is a secondary viral infection that results from the reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus, characterized by dermatological manifestations and neurological sequelae. The incidence of HZ increases with age and is higher among immunocompromised individuals. While the global literature extensively documents HZ disease and its impact, there is a paucity of data in regional studies. Despite the availability of vaccines, HZ poses a public health challenge, especially in regions with limited healthcare access, underscoring the need for better surveillance and ma
