PURPOSE: To report the histopathologic findings in the host tissue of 2 human keratoconic corneas undergoing maximum-depth anterior lamellar keratoplasty (MDALK) using the manual dissection technique described by Melles.
METHODS: Corneal buttons were examined from 2 patients with keratoconus who underwent MDALK using the manual dissection technique of Melles and converted to penetrating keratoplasty after rupture of the lamellar bed. Manual dissection was performed in 1 patient, and combined manual and viscoelastic dissection of Descemet membrane (DM) was performed in the other.

The healthcare systems in China and globally have faced serious challenges during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The shortage of beds in traditional hospitals has exacerbated the threat of COVID-19. To increase the number of available beds, China implemented a special public health measure of opening mobile cabin hospitals. Mobile cabin hospitals, also called Fangcang shelter hospitals, refer to large-scale public venues such as indoor stadiums and exhibition centers converted to temporary hospitals. This study is a mini review of the practice of mobile cabin hospitals in China.

Conversion (laparoscopic-assisted) method of surgical treatment of perforated gastric and duodenal ulcer was used at 103 patients. This method combines minilaparotomy with videolaparoscopy. Mean duration of surgery was 53 min, mean hospital stay - 6 bed-days. Postoperative complications were seen at one patient. There was no lethal outcome whereas lethality after open surgeries was 3.8%.
