Bimatoprost, latanoprost, and tafluprost induce differential expression of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases.

BACKGROUND: Differences in the increase in matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and decrease in tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP) activity may contribute to the different characteristics observed clinically on decreased intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in the expression profiles of MMPs and TIMPs induced by the prostaglandin analogs bimatoprost, latanoprost, and tafluprost in human non-pigmented ciliary epithelial cells (HNPCECs). METHODS: HNPCECs were cultured for 24 h with 0, 10, 100, or 1000

Non-ablative 1927 nm Fractional Thulium Laser With Bimatoprost to Treat a Hypopigmented Burn Scar.

Hypopigmented scars present a cosmetic and psychological burden, especially in patients of darker skin types. Novel strategies to restore pigment are limited and often ineffective. A 48-year-old woman presented with a complaint of hypopigmented burn scars on both arms. Two months prior, the patient received an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment at a medical spa. At her initial consultation, she was prescribed Ruxolitinib (a Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitor) 1.5% (Opzelura) cream to use each morning and tacrolimus 0.1% ointment (a calcineurin inhibitor) to use every night. After six weeks of appl

Controlled bimatoprost release from graphene oxide laden contact lenses: In vitro and in vivo studies.

Ocular drug delivery using contact lenses may be able to substitute for eye drop therapy. However, issues with hydrophobic drugs (like bimatoprost that is used to treat glaucoma) such as low drug uptake using a simple soaking method into preformed contact lenses and alteration in the swelling and transmittance of lenses restricts the application for drug delivery. This research uses graphene oxide (GO) to control the release of bimatoprost from contact lenses along with improvements in the drug uptake, and lens swelling and transmittance. GO was loaded into silicone hydrogel contact lenses by

Periocular invasive melanoma manifestation in a patient using bimatoprost: case report and literature review.

Prostaglandin F2a analogs (PGAs) are considered efficacious in the first-line treatment of glaucoma. They have however been associated with a number of periocular side effects. We present a case of periocular hyperpigmentation and progression to lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM) in a patient using bimatoprost eye drops. We conducted a literature review regarding the etiology and pathophysiology of periocular pigmentation in this setting.A 71-year-old female Caucasian patient with open-angle glaucoma using bimatoprost exclusively in her right eye noticed an ipsilateral lower eyelid/upper cheek are

Decreased orbital fat and enophthalmos due to bimatoprost: Quantitative analysis using magnetic resonance imaging.

We quantitatively determined the relation between the decrease in orbital fat and enophthalmos due to bimatoprost using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Nine orbits in nine patients were treated unilaterally with bimatoprost for glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The contralateral orbits were used as controls. The volumes of the orbital tissues and the enophthalmos were measured using MRI. The mean volumes on the treated and untreated sides were, respectively, 14.6 ± 2.1 and 17.0 ± 4.3 cm3 for orbital fat (P = 0.04) and 3.4 ± 0.5 and 3.3 ± 0.5 cm3 for total extraocular muscles (P = 0.85). Eyelash growth induced by topical prostaglandin analogues, bimatoprost, tafluprost, travoprost, and latanoprost in rabbits.

PURPOSE: Prostaglandin analogues (PGA) are ocular hypotensive agents used for the treatment of glaucoma. Hypertrichosis of the eyelashes has been reported in humans as a side effect. Eyelash growth was investigated with clinical trials in people using bimatoprost. Scattered reports of eyelash growth during the treatment of glaucoma with other PGA are also found in the literature. We investigated the effect of 4 different topical PGA on eyelash length. METHODS: Forty New Zealand white rabbits were divided into 4 groups and received daily topical application of bimatoprost, tafluprost, travopro

Recovery from deepening of the upper eyelid sulcus after switching from bimatoprost to latanoprost.

PURPOSE: Although useful for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP), bimatoprost (BIM) can cause deepening of the upper eyelid sulcus (DUES), one of the symptoms of prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy (PAP). We investigated recovery from BIM-induced DUES after switching treatment to latanoprost (LAT). DESIGN: Prospective, observer-masked, open-label study. METHODS: Twenty-five Japanese patients suffering from primary open-angle glaucoma treated with LAT in both eyes for longer than 6 months and requiring further IOP reduction were prospectively enrolled in the study. During the first 6 mon

Enhancing hair regrowth in Alopecia areata: the power duo of CO2 fractional laser and Bimatoprost.

Alopecia Areata (AA) is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory condition primarily targeting hair follicles, leading to non-scarring hair loss. Traditional therapeutic approaches, including topical and systemic immunosuppressive treatments, often yield inconsistent results and carry significant side effects. Recently, laser therapy has emerged as a promising modality for AA treatment, particularly when combined with adjunctive agents that enhance hair follicle stimulation. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of a novel therapeutic combination: CO2 fractional laser therapy with Bimato

Application of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% for the treatment of eyebrow hypotrichosis: series of ten cases.

In December 2008, bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% was approved in the United States for the treatment of hypotrichosis of the eyelashes. Since then, there have been several reports in the literature on the off-label use of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% for the treatment of thinning in other hair bearing areas, such as in the eyebrows and in the scalp. Herein, a prospective pilot study is presented in which bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% is evaluated for helping to re-grow hair in the eyebrow region of ten female patients.

Incidence of hyperemia associated with bimatoprost treatment in naïve subjects and in subjects previously treated with latanoprost.

PURPOSE: Bimatoprost is a potent hypotensive drug used in the treatment of glaucoma or ocular hypertension with lower target intraocular pressure (IOP) than latanoprost. Its most disturbing side effect is conjunctival hyperemia. The authors compared the extent of conjunctival hyperemia in patients receiving bimatoprost as initial therapy with that in patients whose treatment with latanoprost was replaced by bimatoprost. METHODS: One group of consecutive patients with newly diagnosed bilateral primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) was treated with once daily bimatoprost 0.03% ophthalmic solution
