We report the results of a comparison of several epidemiologic and ecologic parameters affecting the incidence and seroprevalence of Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) in northern, central, and southeastern Marseille, an area endemic for this disease. We have isolated cDNA clones encoding an inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor type 1 (InsP3R1) from human uteri and a leukaemic cell line, HL-60. AIMS: The expression of human neuropsin (KLK8) mRNA in normal and pathological skin samples was analysed and the results compared with those for tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) mRNA.

In order to characterize the genetic defect in Japanese-type acatalasemia, we examined catalase synthesis in the cultured fibroblasts isolated from a patient suffering from this disease. A human monocytic cell line (THP-1) was used to study the effects of PAF (platelet-activating factor) on the expression of IL-1 beta mRNA. THP-1 cells were incubated with 10 pM PAF in the presence or absence of 0.1 microgram/mL endotoxin for 4 hr, after which cytoplasmic RNA was extracted and subjected to Northern hybridizations.
