Alkannin-based pharmaceutical formulations for improving wound healing have been on the market for several years. However, detailed molecular mechanisms of their action have yet to be elucidated. Here, we investigated the potential roles of AAN-II in improving the healing of pressure-induced venous ulcers using a rabbit model generated by combining deep vein thrombosis with a local skin defect/local skin defect. The extent of healing was evaluated using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) or vimentin staining. Rabbit skin fibroblasts were cultured for AAN-II treatment or TGFB1-sgRNA lentivirus transfec

Antimicrobial resistance is the greatest threat to the treatment of bacterial infectious diseases. The development of resistance-modifying agents (RMAs) represents a promising strategy to mitigate the spread of bacterial antimicrobial resistance. In this study, a natural product, isovalerylshikonin (IVS), was isolated from Arnebia euchroma, a traditional Chinese medicine herb, that exhibited marginal antibacterial activity against drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus RN4220, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 16 mg/L. In addition, a synergistic effect between IVS and streptomycin

OBJECTIVES: Right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH) often results in failure of the right ventricle or even the left ventricle. Rosmarinic acid (RA), a natural polyphenol, is commonly found in Boraginaceae species and some species of ferns and hornworts. This study looked at how RA affects oxidative stress and left ventricular hemodynamic functions as well as RVH in monocrotaline (MCT) induced RVH model rats.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: To cause RVH, MCT (60 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally (IP) injected. Rats were given saline or RA (10, 15, and 30 mg/kg, gavage, over 21 days). In anesthetized rats, the

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the search for new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. In this sense, natural products emerge as a potential source for the discovery of new drugs, with the research of the pharmacological properties of these products being very important. In addition to its function in plants (insect attraction and repellency), essential oils present pharmacological effects, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antimutagenic, antiviral, antiprotozoal, antioxidant, antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory properties. In this revie

Arnebia euchroma (AE) is broadly recognized as the dominating botanical source of Arnebiae Radix, a widely-used Chinese herbal medicine. However, it is frequently adulterated with the morphologically similar but pharmacologically and economically inferior Arnebia benthamii (AB). Such adulteration poses significant risks to both the therapeutic efficacy and safety in AE applications. Although our previous study employed near-infrared spectroscopy to differentiate AE from AB, the underlying disparities in their chemical constituents remain insufficiently elucidated, thereby impeding the developm

The effect of methanol extract of whole plants of Trichodesma indicum R. Br. has been investigated on sulphur dioxide (SO2) induced cough reflex in Swiss albino mice. The extract has demonstrated significant (p < 0.001) inhibition in frequency of cough in all the tested doses when compared with untreated control group. The effect persisted up to 90 min of its oral administration and also comparable to that of the effect exhibited by the standard drug (Codeine phosphate). This study confirmed the traditional use of this plant in the treatment of cough. Determination of underlying mechanism of b

Leaf pubescence provides multiple protective functions against herbivores, water loss, and high irradiance in alpine plants, but how does it prevent photoinhibition when plants face simultaneous high radiation and low temperatures remain unclear. We investigated how leaf pubescence affects photosynthetic efficiency, thermal regulation, and photoprotective pigments in Phacelia secunda (Boraginaceae) across an elevational gradient in the Andes of Central Chile. We experimentally manipulated pubescence (intact vs. reduced with a razor blade) in plants collected from contrasting elevations (2100 a

Evaluation of Anchusa species of the family Boraginaceae during previous investigations determined numerous therapeutic potentials against inflammatory-related diseases. The present study evaluates the phytochemical, acute toxicity, and hepatoprotective effects of methanolic extracts of Anchusa limbata (MEAL) against thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver injury in rats. The phytochemical profiling of MEAL followed a Folin-Ciocalteu and 10% AlCl3 procedure using a spectrophotometer. Thirty rats were divided into 5 groups: Normal (A) and TAA control rats (B) treated orally with daily 10% tween 20; r
