Leukemic cells from 46 T ALL cases were studied with a wide panel of mAb reacting with T cells using an immunoperoxidase technique. The cases included 15 adults (16 years or over) and 31 children (less than 16 years). We report two unusual cases of hyaline vascular type Castleman's disease showing a pale clear cuff of mantle zone lymphocytes presenting a marginal zone distribution pattern. These cells had medium-sized round or slightly indented nuclei and a moderate amount of clear cytoplasm. An unusual case of aggressive Stage IIE(B) primary natural killer cell lymphoma of the caecum is described in a 16-year old Chinese girl. Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric cancer, and while chemotherapy has significantly improved survival rates, it can also lead to long-term side effects, including immune system dysfunction. Lyme disease is a tickborne illness caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. In a previous report we described a decrease in the CD57 lymphocyte subset in patients with chronic Lyme disease. We have now identified a patient with chronic relapsing and remitting symptoms of Lyme disease who had decreased levels of CD57 lymphocytes over 10 years. This observation represents the longest duration of an immunologic abnormality ever documented in chronic Lyme disease. The CD57 lymphocyte subset appears to be a useful marker of longterm infection with the Lyme disease spirochete.

This study investigates T-cell antigen expression and functional subsets in T-cell large granular lymphocytic leukemia (T-LGLL) cells by flow cytometry. The leukemic T-LGLs frequently showed expressions of CD57, dim CD2, CD5 and CD7, and more likely CD16 and HLA-DR, compared with reactive/benign T-LGLs.
